Sinker in the middle, drops a bit, and Palacios tops it foul near home, 0-1 Big breaking slider starts outside and bends into the outer 3rd, 0-2 Cutter misses 6 inches high, 1-2 Cutter waist high outside corner, goes with it, a liner over Berti playing near shot, into left for a two out single.
The problem with Jeff's strategy is that Schmidt misses down the middle or waist high 1 or 2 times EVERY at abat.

Mandatory 4 and 2/3rds inning single by Schmidt.

Nice to see. No walks. The DP helping. I often wonder if his third time through the order bugbear is actually simply fatigue from his heavy pitch count… It's all about execution. Just ask Robespierre. A little Reign of Terror humor is always in good taste.

Cutter on the outside corner, fouled off. Caballero takes a sinker that missed badly, up and away, 1-1 Throw over. Yanks expecting him to run, keeping a close eye on Palacios.

Caballero takes a slider way low and outside, Palacios goes and Trevino just barely prevents a wild pitch, and cannot even throw to 2nd. Slider below the waist, outside corner, swung over, 2-2

Caballero will always remind me of the Donald Duck ride in Disney Epcot Mexico.

The name Joey DeLuca sounds like he did a dime at Attica. This is getting to be like watching MST3K.

Slider 6 inches outside, Caballero chases and spoils. No-chance curve bounced outside, 3-2. Trevino and Rizzo to the mound to talk to Schmidt...they break the huddle.

Slider about 8-10 inches outside, waist high, Caballero starts but checks in time. Overhead shot says 50-50. 1st base ump says no swing. BB, 1st and 2nd, 2 down for Jackson.

Slider breaks into the middle of the zone, 0-1 Cutter well high, 1-1 His command is still bad even when he's pitching well. Sweeper more than a foot outside chased, 1-2 Inside move, turns and bluffs Palacios back to 2nd. Crowd boos mildly. Slider further outside, taken And now Schmidt will have to risk coming into the zone. Either this pitch or the next one. Bad curve hangs thigh high right down the middle, Jackson misses, fouls it off. Hence my telling Jeff what was wrong with his strategy regarding making no mistakes Slider winds up a foot outside and low, Jackson, obviously a Stanton discipline, chases and misses for the K, inning over.
Schmidt takes advantage of a hitter who isn't really a big league hitter to get out of the inning.
Top 6, 1-0 Yanks.
21 pitches for Schmidt in the 5th, 67 through 5. Eh, it could've been worse.
Judge, Verdugo and Stanton for the Yanks in the 6th.
