Sinker drops to the knees inner half, Volpe swings over, K, 2 down.
Not the worst thing that could happen, he almost hit into a DP on the foul down 3rd.
Cleavinger, the lefty, in to face Soto.

Volpe with a terrible at bat. Watches a gut-shot 91 mph cookie of a fastball, fouls off a ball in side, then strikes out swinging on a pitch at the bottom of the zone.

Cleavinger: FB 95-6 and slider 85, both about 45% and cutter 89 the rest of the time
Has a good record so far, ERA of just over 2.00, 20 K and 11 Bb in 13+ innings. He's 3-0 so far with 2 holds.
Soto has actually faced him before, he's 1-3 with a HBP against this guy.

Slider starts at Soto hangs high, Soto spins out of there, 1-1

Slider bounced outside, Soto spits on it, 2-2.
Slider stays in the zone almost all the way to home, break low and just outside, 3-2
Great take by a master of taking pitches
Same pitch as the 1-1, but Soto spoils this one.
All slider so far through 6 pitches
Inside moves bluffs Trevino back to 2nd.

Pitches him backwards, Soto guess slider by location and count, starts it low/away, and he takes the FB backing up just outside middle down in the zone for the ꓘ. Soto just flips the bat over and concedes defeat that at bat.
Yanks get two on, don't capitalize. Still 1-0 Yanks, bottom 7 coming.
4-5-6 for the Rays, Paredes, Ramirez and DeLuca.

Wow... Can't believe Soto took that pitch After 6 straight sliders, he guessed slider by location (low/away) and count (2 strikes) and was frozen when the FB just stayed there. |
