91 pitches for Gil through 6 shutout innings. Today, he's the definition of effectively wild. Change-up is not sharp, no command of the slider, but he's putting up bagels.

Yanks get a big break, slider hangs up and in, is ball 4, but Paredes starts the bat, tries to check, and it hits the bat. Then they get another break, as it appears to be rolling foul down the 1st base line but stays fair and goes right to Rizzo, he picks it up and waits for Paredes to stroll down to get tagged out to end the inning.
Top 7, 6-0 Yanks as the leadoff double goes to waste. If that was Gil's last pitch, a good game for him, battling through so-so stuff and mediocre command to throw 6 scoreless innings.
91 pitches through 6 for him.
Jones leads off, then back to the top for Volpe and Soto in the 7th for the Yanks.

Name that Yankee, Dave Silvestri… Did you look that up? If not, very impressive!

Jones.. Cutter thigh high middle 0-1 Change at the knees in the middle, 0-2 Slider at the knees inner half, topped foul. FB just inside, 1-2 Change bounced, 2-2 Cutter high, 3-2 FB misses barely outside, great comeback for Jones, from 0-2 to a leadoff walk.

In the strange world that is now MLB, Alexander pitching poorly enough to still be pitching in the 7th inning. Gil pitching a shutout but won’t see the 7th…

Vople...
FB in the middle at the top, fouled off. Cutter dives inside, letter high, 1-1 Backdoor slider rolled over to Rosario at short, he flips it quick, and they're able to double up Volpe by a step. 6-4-3. Two down, nobody on for Soto.

Letter-high cutter on the corner away, 0-1 on Soto Gets a sinker thigh high, just outside middle, and misses, fouls it off, spins his bat after in disgust at missing that one. Cutter outside, letter-high again, fouled off Chases a bad slider about 6 inches outside waist high, taps it off the end of the bat back to Alexander, who throws him out, inning over.
Yanks waste the leadoff walk. 14 pitches for Alexander in the 7th, and 90 total. If nothing else, he's saved the Rays pen today.
Bottom 7, 6-0 Yanks. Palacios, Rosario and DeLuca for the Rays in the 7th, probably against Nick Burdi.
