They are swinging the bats tonight but just can't get the balls to drop in. They're swinging for the fences; trying to do too much. Those are the results, all right, but I don't think they're swinging for HRs. Rice and Torres' deep flies went the other way. Rice hit his other one to just right of center. Judge's went to the track in right. Siri takes a sinker on the inside corner, 0-1 Slider just outside, rolled over to Volpe and the Yanks turn an impressive DP with an excellent pivot by Torres in the middle of it. Tonkin keeps the game within reach. Top 6, 5-3 Rays. |

i remember earlier in the season when our starters were giving us length and out pitching the other guys. now they can't get out of the 5th. for sure the offense isn't holding up their end pressuring the other team's starter but it all comes down to pitching.

Cutter over the outer half above the knees, 1-1. This guy seems to have 4 good pitches. Wonder why he isn't starting...maybe can't hold the good stuff for more than 1-2 innings.
Slider backs up way outside, 2-1
Sinker misses well outside, 2-1
Cutter in the zone down and in, bounced foul near home, 3-2
Gonna try to tie him up here, I think.

Slider in a hittable spot, below and inside middle, but he's late and under, the bloop to right, DeLuca charges, and dives to catch. Not sure he had to dive, but he did and it worked, 2 down.

It all comes down to the lineup. It was our Achilles heel in 2023 and it continues to be now. In the last 25 games, I think we've scored first 5 times. When you put that kind of pressure on your pitching, it shows. |
