Boone can unload the bench today. That’s the good news. The bad news is they’re not that much better than the scrubs that started… Hard to be worse than this. Yeeech. Yuck. Dry heaves. Wet heaves…

And with Wells pinch-hitting for Narvaez, they bring in Alex Young, a lefty just called up from AAA today.Young pitched briefly with the Reds this year, just 2 innings, had a 3.86 ERA in 53 2/3 innings for them last year. Junkballing lefty probably a sidearmer, thows slider, cutter and change mostly.

Sign of life from Verdugo. Good for him. We'll need him to hit his career averages the rest of the year

Wells has never faced Young, at least in the majors.
Takes a sinker just outside, 1-0 Takes a curve way outside, 2-0 Sinker in the middle thigh high, fouled off. Curve misses low and away, 3-1 He hardly threw his sinker last year, just 3% Maybe he tweeked it. Curve in the zone low/away, lifted high to medium deep right, didn't get all of it. Taylor catches and Verdugo moves on to 3rd with 2 down for LeMahieu.

DJ... Takes a change just outside and below middle, 0-1 Takes a turned over change well low and outside, 1-1 Swings over a big diving change on the ground near middle, 1-2. All changes so far. Takes a 4th straight change low in the middle, 2-2 Have you seen the change enough to measure it yet, DJ?

Comes with the sinker on the corner away, and DJ was ready for it, hits a sharp grounder to the right side, but too close to McNeil, who fields it moving back and to his left, turns and throws him out, inning over. Maybe 3 years ago that's a double to right, but not anymore. 100.5 off the bat.
Top 7, 3-2 Mets. Bader, then back to the top for Lindor and Nimmmo for the Mets in the 7th.

Tonkin back out there for the 7th having already thrown 27 pitches.
Bader... Takes a sinker at the bottom in the middle, 0-1 Takes a sweeper well outside, 1-1 Sinker inside corenr waist high, fouled, 1-2 Takes the slider low and outside, 2-2 Probably Tonkin's last batter, with Lindor and Nimmo due in. Sinker waist high, outer half, fouled back. Slider a the knees in the middle, Bader gets lucky, the check swing hits his bat, goes foul. If he checks in time it's a strike 3 dcalled. Slider low away, Bader checks in time again, ball 3. Swings over a sinker dropping down and in for the K. And Boone does go to left Tonkin. Ferguson coming in. Somewhat risky, because if anyone gets on, Ferguson will have to stay in for Marinez.
