The bullpen stinks and the defense is terribly sloppy.

It may be hard to believe, but even with all of their recent meltdowns, the Yankees bullpen still ranks 12th in ERA in the majors at 3.83. Nothing to brag about for sure, but better than some other contenders like the Phillies (3.95) or Orioles and Mets (3.98.)
Only the Cleveland and Milwaukee pens have a collective ERA below 3.00, at 2.80 each. From there you have to jump up to Atlanta at 3.30. Lots of mediocrity out there. Somehow baseball has figured out how to simultaneously have lousy hitting and lousy pitching. I don't think I've ever seen that before.

There’s simply not enough talent to supply 30 teams with 8 relievers at once. At that rate, plus the guys that shuttle back and forth between MLB and AAA, teams utilize over 300 relievers per year. Another reason we need more innings from starters. MLB has outsmarted itself once again…

Starters suck, Relievers suck. We have no closer. BUT Matt Blake is a pitching Guru.

You can any stats you want to fit anything. We have an eye test and what I'm seeing is not a very good pitching team.

So, 20 teams suck more than they do. Lot of bad pitching around MLB. one caveat - the Yanks carried a < 3.00 team ERA into June. I'm not sure exactly what it is since, but I'm guessing it's in the bottom quarter of the league.

The Yankees relievers tonight sport the following ERA's: 9.00 6.48 5.79 3.86 8.64 Just a reminder - they're trotting that detritus out there in the midst of a dead-heat division race.

Why is anyone surprised that the pitching staff is collapsing ? We all knew the Yankees needed more pitching to last the season.

I just saw the Yankees sent down Effross, the one reliever that got hitters out last night, to Scranton. They kept the Quad A guys up here.
