In other East games today: at 6:40 pm at Citizens' Bank Park, the Rays start a 3-game series against the Phillies in Philly. Long reliever Cole Sulser 93-4, 4.35 ERA will open for the 2nd straight appearance for the Rays; 5 days ago he opened with 2 scoreless innings in a 9-4 win over the Twins. Christopher Sanchez (10-9, 3.45 ERA) starts for Philadelphia; he's 3-3 with a 4.50 ERA in his last 6 starts, but pitched a good one against the Jays in Toronto last time out.
At 7:07 pm in Citifield, the Jays start a 3-game series against the Mets, whose 9-game win streak was snapped yesterday. Chris Bassitt (9-13, 4.30 ERA) starts for Toronto, he's pitched badly for a couple of months now: 1-6 with a 5.98 ERA since the All-Star Break. Paul Blackburn (5-4, 4.66 ERA) goes for the Mets; he's been hit hard in 2 of his last 3 starts, 12 ER in 12 1/3 innings.
In Fenway at 7:10 pm, the Orioles start a 3-game series against the Red Sox. Cade Povich (2-7, 5.76 ERA) starts for Baltimore; he pitched a great game his last start against the White Sox and threw a good one four starts ago against Boston for a tough loss, but got hit hard in the two starts between them. Brayan Bello (12-7, 4.75 ERA) pitches for Boston; he's sandwiched bad starts against Arizona and the Mets around 8 innings of shutout ball against the Jays.
And at 7:07 pm at the Stadium, it's Singer vs. Rodon. See you about 45 minutes from now.

Pham steps in. Game underway...
Pham gets a FB above middle, grounds it to Chisholm, he takes a beat to make sure on the throw, but the throw is bad, bounces to Rizzo who juggles and catches, but too late, Pham crossed the base before Rizzo had possession. E-5. Bad Start.

Back leg slider taken, moved the back leg out of the way, 1-2
Big breaking curve starts outside breaks into the zone below and outside middle, Witt frozen for a ꓘ, 1 down.

Swings over a change low and away, runner goes, the throw is way off to the 1st base side, Torres lunges, can't stop it, goes into center, E-2. Pham to 3rd on the SB/error.
Bad 0-2, FB in the middle, near the top, looping liner to center for a hit and RBI, 1-0 Royals.

Grossman takes a FB on the outside corner, 0-1
Bounces a change, taken, 1-1
Misses a FB above middle, 1-2
FB way high over the middle, taken, 2-2
Bounces another change near middle, 3-2
FB above middle at 94, fouled back.
Slider on the low/inside corner, CLEARLY STIRKE 3, but not called because Wells had to let the glove go down and in to catch it. Terrible call, 70% on Gameday. 1st and 2nd, 1 down.

rodon handles witt easily but the defense fails him. not sure why jazz double clutched. wells makes a terrible throw and of course perez follows that with a hit for an rbi. then rodon walks groosman.

Rizzo goes to the mound to try to talk Rodon through the jam.
Curve cuts across the whole zone, misses down and in, 2-0.
Big trouble building...
Change in the zone, chopped weakly to 3rd, Chisholm playing back as he should be and by the time he can get to it, it bounces just foul as he fields it. Would've been an easy out.

Rodon K's the side, but the error give him an unearned run, plus add 6 pitches to his total, 27 in the 1st
1-0 Royals, going bottom 1.
