In “games of significance” today: the Giants are looking for the sweep of the Orioles at Camden Yards; Logan Webb started against Zach Eflin and that game is 3-2 Orioles, top 9. Seranthony Dominguez is on the mound to try to close it and avoid the sweep.
The Twins are trying to even the 4-game series against the Guardians after last night’s terrible loss, giving up 3 in the bottom of the 10th and losing 5-4. Simeon Woods-Richardson started against Joey Cantillo (one of the few rookie starters the Yanks have faced in recent months who they actually hit hard) and that game is tied at 2 in middle of the 8th inning.
The Blue Jays play the rubber game of their series against the Rangers in Arlington at 2:35 pm. Kevin Gausman (12-11, 4.02 ERA) started for Toronto; famous if not wholly successful prospect Kumar Rocker (0-0, 2.25) made his second MLB start for Texas. That game is 2-0 Jays in the top of the 4th.
The Red Sox and Rays play the rubber game of their series in the DippyDome™ at 6:50 pm. Brayan Bello (14-7, 4.60 ERA) starts for Boston; he’s pitched 3 good games in his last 4 starts including a somewhat wild but effective 5 1/3 innings against the Yanks for a win last time out. Zack Littell (7-9, 3.73 ERA) starts for Tampa; he’s been great in his last 7 starts, with just one clinker. He's 4-2 with a 1.67 ERA in those seven starts and has an 11 2/3 innings scoreless streak going, including 5 shutout innings against the O’s for a win, and 6 shutout innings against the Guardians for another in his last two starts.
The red-hot Tigers have won 4 in a row, 9 of 11 and 18 of 25, but they have today off before going to Camden Yards to take on a slumping Orioles team. If the Yanks have a good series in Oakland this weekend, there’s a small chance they could have to East clinched before the O’s come into the Stadium Tuesday for 3 games. The A’s have been much better since the end of June, 37-30 over their last 67 games. In the same span, the Yanks are 36-31, though the Yanks have been much better winning 9 of their last 12 while the A’s have gone 6-6.
And at 4:10 pm in Safeco Field T-Mobile Park, it’s Schmidt vs. Gilbert. See you in about 45 minutes for that one.

Notable bench/IL players include: 👨: Wells 🐶: Verdugo 🤖: DJ Just a thought; you might want to use a golfer icon for Trevino, in honor of Lee Trevino, the famous golfer who was rival of Jack Nicklaus on the PGA tour in the 60s, 70s and early 80s. He won six major championships and 29 PGA titles, and is in the World Golf Hall of Fame. If that's too direct, you can use a Mexican flag, because Lee Trevino adopted the nicknames "SuperMex" and "The Merry Mex" for himself. I know Jose was born in Texas, but so was Lee and he was proud of his Mexican heritage, and that he was a trailblazer for Latinos and people of Mexican descent in professional golf. 23 and Me names 5 cities in Mexico as the most frequent points of common ancestry for people named Trevino, if that helps. Good idea! Trevino: ⛳️ or 🇲🇽

Late note on the O's game: The Giants tied it in the 9th on a Schmitt RBI single, with Dominguez blowing another game for the O's, and Giovanny Soto, who came in after Dominguez blew it, got the win when Santander walked it off with a 2-run HR, his 42nd of the season. The Yanks' lead in the division is back down to 4 1/2, and the magic number stays at 6.

Torres comes to the plate, game underway... Torres fouls off a waist high FB outer half at 97, 0-1 Takes a FB bounced outside at 98. Slider drops onto the top outside corner, taken 1-2 Bounces a curve outside, Torres doesn't chase, 2-2 FB rides inside but misses above the corner, taken, 3-2. And good "leadoff" at bat for Torres Slider misses outside, and Torres is rewarded for his patience with a leadoff walk. Gilbert was annoyed at the call, but it was 0% on Gameday, 3 inches outside.

FB in the zone, Judge hits a DP ball to Rojas at 3rd, he fumbles it, gets away to his right, and he gets nobody, E-5, a big break for the Yanks, 1st and 2nd, 1 down.

Stanton takes a slider below and outside middle for a strike. Takes a curve way low and outside, 1-1 FB well low, near middle, lays off, 2-1 Comes set, wheels and looks Torres back to 2nd. Curve starts at him, he gives ground a bit, takes it on the inside corner waist high, 2-2 Great splitter to the low inside corner gets a swing-over by Stanton for the K.
Gilbert has to work a bit, but gets around the leadoff BB and botched DP, 0-0, going bottom 1st. 19 pitches in the 1st for Gilbert.

Victor Robles a late scratch because of the hand injury, Dylan Moore batting 8th, playing 2nd, everyone else moves up a slot and Polanco is the DH. Rodriguez takes a sinker above middle, 0-1 Slider on the outside cornere fouled. Slider further outside, he reaches for it and serves fliner to center for a leadoff single.
