Why even bother playing this game? It's meaningless... Almost, but not quite. Potential World Series matchup homefield still up for grabs vs. Phillies, Brewers and Padres, although those three might be decided by the 5th inning of the Yankees game: Phillies up 6-1 (they'd clinch vs. Yanks), Padres down 6-1, Yanks would clinch vs. SD with Padres loss, and Mets lead Brewers 3-0 (Yanks would clinch vs. Milwaukee with Brewers loss).

Then it's possible all 4 teams could end up with identical records. What's that tiebreaker?

Then it's possible all 4 teams could end up with identical records. What's that tiebreaker? It's not really a 4-team tiebreaker. It would only matter if both teams made the World Series. Yanks would have to tiebreaker over all three: swept the Phillies and took 2 of 3 from the Padres and Brewers. So in any tie, the Yanks get homefield. But the Phils are a game ahead, so they have to lose today. Padres and Brewers are even, so if they lose their games, it doesn't matter what the Yanks do against the Pirates. If either of those two win, then the Yanks have to win to hold homefield.
