Thomas tries to jump a 1st pitch FB down by 3 with 2 down in the 9th. Swings under a FB at the top in the middle, 0-1
FB outside, waist high, taken, 1-1
FB above the top in the middle, he chases that one, too, and fouls it back, 1-2
Change to the knees, inside middle, rolls it over to Chisholm at 3rd, fields, turns and throws him out, game over!!
Yanks win 6-3, to take a 2-0 lead in the ALCS. Yanks haven't been this close to the World Series since game 5 of the 2019 ALCS, when they won to trail 3-2, heading back to Houston. Or, if you prefer, since they won game 4 of the 2017 ALCS to tied it at 2-2.

Great win. But I have to say Cleveland was putting good wood on Weaver. Hopefully he needs some rest. Still don’t understand why Hamilton wasn’t in the game.

Substandard start from Cole, but still an easy win. That's big time. The formerly maligned Yankees bullpen continues to come up big. If you would've told me in early/mid August that the bullpen would be a strength, i would've told you "discontinue the lithium."

Cole's was shaky, BP delivered great stuff to save Cole's bacon. Offense delivered the necessary runs to cement a win! Great to see Judge got it going with his two run homer.

Maybe Boone thought: 1) I already warmed him 2) If Hamilton gets into trouble, Weaver's in the game anyway, with less breathing space to work with. But I think you're right. That was a good time to give Hamilton or Cousins a look, with Weaver tossing lightly. One guy gets on, he can warm for real. 2nd guy gets on, he's in the game. |

Something that we didn't say much during the season, but Holmes really put out the fire. Game could've gotten ugly without that effort.
