I'm just thinking how nuts the Stadium would have went if Cole got out of that bases loaded no outs 5th. A pleasant dream/thought that never happened. Too bad.

He was 8 feet from the bag ... there was no need for Cole to cover Smoltz is not often right, but he is in this case. Cole HAS TO COVER there, even if he's 90% sure Rizzo can take it himself. Let Rizzo wave him off if he thinks he can take it on his own, but it's the pitcher's job to be there, just in case, ESPECIALLY WITH 2 OUTS. 100% correct...

FB just outside, called a strike anyway, missed by an inch, 0% on Gameday, 0-1 Cutter above the zone, fouled off. Curve on the outer 3rd, serves a fly to left, easy play for Verdugo, 1 down.

Yeah, Rizzo isn't free from blame, but Cole forgot basic, fundamental stuff there. That inning was a big sh*t sandwich and lots of guys need to take a bite.

Ah come on. FB on the outside corner is strike 1, 60% on Gameday, not called. Bad call, 1-0 Cutter below the top in the middle, fouled, 1-1 Curve drops low, taken 2-1 Cutter inner 3rd, he had a bead on it, but it dropped a bit and he tops it foul, 2-2 FB at the top at 97 in the middle, swung on and missed, K, 2 down.

Lux... Curve on the low/outer 3rd, fouled. FB at 98 on the outside corner, fouled. 0-2 FB at the top, popped to short right center, Soto cuts across, calls off Judge, catches, inning over.
Bottom 6, tied at 5. Well, if the Yanks are going to strike back, this would be the inning: Soto, Judge and Stanton. Maybe Vesia against Soto, and then Graterol. Vesia threw 23 pitches in the 5th, so I'm not certain.

I think Cole beats him if he breaks immediately. By the time he realized there was trouble, probably not. That's why the pitcher must go right away in that situation.

Graterol comes in to start the inning. Soto... Sinker down and in makes him skip rope to avoid getting hit. 1-0

Hangs the slider well high, 2-0 on Soto. Big rip on a sinker above and inside middle, fouled, 2-1 Slider misses low, near the corner inside, 3-1 Soto takes his timeout. 98.4 FB on the edge of the outside corner above the waist, fouled, 3-2 Sinker at 100 mph misses high and outside, ball 4. Leadoff walk for Soto.
