I kinda feel bad for the guy. It came out during the ASG so it ruined the night for him... And it's not even news. Tweets from 7 years ago and he hasn't said anything similar since. And the reactions I'm seeing on other forums are so over the top... Calling for suspension and Brewers to cut him... If I was Judged on person I was 7years ago or stupid shit I typed on inyernet... My life would be over I'd never be able to get a job or make a new friend he made his statement that he was young and dumb and doesn't feel that way.. He apologized... It should be over with. I hope the media doesn't ride this story and it gets dropped and put in rear view. Should never came out during ASG...

I never understand things like this. These tweets have been there since 2011. They've been there for anyone to see and NOW TODAY someone notices them and it blows up? Where were these people in the last 7 years or when it was tweeted back then?

Even worse it looks like people are Photoshop fake tweets now his original 7 year old tweets were rap lyrics and bad attempts at being funny. I honestly did not see any type of actual hate behind them. Now all of a sudden new tweets are found (after his account went private) fro m 3 years ago that are racist and deal with political/social issues... Something his original tweets did not the "new" tweets apparently look like Photoshop from people posting in comments but I think the content is all you need to see to know they're fake

Is Hader really sorry or just sorry he got caught and exposed? Yea I have no idea how "sorry" he is, but looking at this from both sides since this has been a big thing lately I think once I find out I'm going to be called up to the big leagues I would go through my twitter/facebook/etc and delete anything from the past so no one can dig anything up. On the other hand people have this much time on their hands to look for things from 7 years ago and no one has noticed these tweets existing for 7 years?

I posted this on the All-Star game thread but it really should be posted here, since it's the topic
If Twitter was around when I was 17.. I imagine it would look much like Haders. Born and raised in NJ but not in any of the cities or rich suburbs... I grew up in the sticks. They actually have a name for us... they call us "Pineys" as in people from the Pine Barrens. A lot of people fly confederate flags around here, for some reason... they think we live in the south.. although , that segment of our population seems to have died out (they were mostly older fellers, back when I was a teenager). Anyways, the "N" word, was a regular subject in our vocab.. with many different meanings, to many different people. To some it was just like dropping an "F bomb" when you stubbed your toe or got angry.. to others it was an ignorant person, regardless of skin color... to some it was every single black and brown person on the planet... to others it was certain types of blacks.. to others it was a word you shall never speak, especially if you're white... but mostly that was not the case. The town just to the south of me was "founded" by the KKK and the "KKK house," is still erected if you know how to find it. (I can't verify that the town was founded by the KKK or if it was just here say... but the old KKK house I can attest to).
Anyways, what I was getting at.. I changed a lot the past 7 years... and certainly changed a lot since I was 17. If Twitter was around when I was 17... I would never be able to get any type of job PERIOD because I'd be posting some DUMB shit... My town and it's attitude has also changed a lot since I was 17 years old. Mostly I guess due to the younger people replacing the "old guard," so to speak. I don't think Hader should receive any type of punishment for shit he posted (probably drunk) 7 years ago , when he was still in high school. And if you actually look at his tweets, they don't seem hateful, or politically motivated... just seems like a dumb ass kid posting dumb ass shit. A lot of the demeaning Tweets were actually rap songs that he was quoting.. Rap songs sung by black individuals... you don't see too many racist people listening to rap songs.. Also, right or wrong, the word gay doesn't always mean homosexual, especially when you're 17. When I was 17, everything was gay. I know now using gay as a derogatory term for something you don't like, is pretty tacky for many reasons.
I was gonna post more , but I'm gonna get off the soap box... I think you can understand where I'm going with this... which my main point is, and I'll quote inger, "Good for him for having made a decent statement about the tweets, and for saying he no longer feels that way. Good for Lorenzo Cain for standing up for him, and giving him the benefit of a doubt. Good for the Brewers sending him to sensitivity training, and to him for going."

Is Hader really sorry or just sorry he got caught and exposed? THAT, my friend...is the million dollar question. We can never see inside his heart, we can only trust or distrust the words he uses to communicate his thoughts. Perhaps if we could look him in the eye when he spoke the words, then we might get a better feel for his real nature. Hopefully those that know him well will know if there is truth there. Should we care? I’m not sure...I think so...

Honestly , if his team mates think he's sorry and changed, shouldn't that be all that matters? I think Cain's words spoke volumes and should have deaded the whole "Hader is a horrible person" narrative...

Then again , they could be giving Hader a sock party in the locker room ala Gomer Pyle in Full Metal Jacket , which he may deserve if he acts like an ass behind closed doors

I feel when someone gets signed by a professional team they should just purge their twitter at that point to avoid things like this. I agree that people are different at 17 but they should really monitor their Twitter better if they are going to be in public view.

Even though I'm most definitely not in the public eye... I make sure that my Facebook is blocked towards anyone not on my friends list.. this way prospective employers and the ilk can't go snooping.. But if I was in the public eye that shit would be locked down even more. I'd probably hire someone to run my social media for me to be honest. I'm sure there's LOTS of money in that right now...

Exposed that at one time he was a stupid teenager that said stupid teenagerish things? We have no idea if that was all that was. This is true.. but in my opinion, after reading the tweets, and as a kid growing up , saying things to shock / offend people for the fun of it... with no hatred behind it.. just stupidity, I think it reeks more of that scent than any thing else. I could be wrong... I've been wrong many times...

Often the immature mind will utilize any weapon to create laughter. I know I did that as a child/teenager. I know I still walk a fine line with that at times, so perhaps I never grew up. Since I don't know hardly anything about rap except that I've never been able to enjoy it, I have no idea what was written by Hader vs. what was quoting rap music. The sexual things are the stuff we used to say in the locker room and we always said that you were either talking about it or doing it, (as in those that were doing didn't talk) so most of that was just to impress guys.
I didn't get much humor out of what was written, and from what I've been told much of rap is about the writer's pain, which some could interpret as vitriol if they have not "experienced" life through the same prism. The tweets seem a bit rebellious and angry to me, unless I'm missing something...
In any event, he makes a living throwing a baseball. He should be quite unimportant to us, unless he were like John Rocker and still spurting this crap as an adult...
I'm thinking that having passed through the minor leagues and assimilated himself in MLB he has changed his thinking greatly. When we leave a closed society we have many opportunities to learn. Even our highschool was that, a closed society, because we usually hung out in packs. The smart kids, the nerds, the athletes, the (then hidden) gays, the mean girls, the sad and ugly girls. The teachers kids often had the worst plight. I saved a couple from beatings even though I barely knew them. Perhaps there is still work to do. Perhaps he will do it, and perhaps not...It's an individual choice. The past should be left there. The lesson should be learned by all people in the world, much less those that are in the public eye. This is an age without mercy in the media. A story is a story. Don't be foolish enough to become one...
