Nice of Hicks' to hit a two-run homer to Happ out a new pitcher.

So...now that we have Walker "going", why is he batting eighth??? Just kidding, guys. I think I'd bat him eighth in that line up, too...We should be flipping that around a bit. Bird should be #3...I dunno. I don't care for this new belief that your best run producer should bat 2nd, but that's just me... DiDi should be hitting lower in the lineup, so I think it's time for Bird to be moved up.

Even though Stanton is a big guy, it appears the dynamics of he and Torres are bit different on pops and short flies to right...
The difference is that Torres only hears a Freightliner bearing down on him instead of a locomotive.

I was sad to hear of the death of Tony Cloninger. I flashed back to the memory of the kids next door telling me that Cloninger had just hit his second grand slam of the day. That was 1966. I was twelve years old, and Cloninger was coming off consecutive seasons with the Braves of 19-14 and 24-11. He was only 25 that season, but he’d drop off to 14-11 for the year, and his best was already behind him.
Cloninger went on to career highs in doubles and HR that season with 5 apiece. He kept an undeserved reputation as a good hitting pitcher throughout his twelve year career.
RIP to Cloninger, and to another piece of my youth...

And then, two years later...the Royals were born... I was 14. Think about some of the tales Utah has inside him...he’s twenty six years my senior at 90 years young...my story of being 12 in 1966 would be his of being 12 in 1940. The live ball era was still a teenager...

Couldn't believe a pitcher could do that. Had a bunch of his baseball cards too. He also worked as a bullpen coach for the Yankees for about 10 years.
