what a start for our new pitcher....JA has been more than Happ-way good...….. That’s pretty Punny, Utah!!! Tell us something you remember that happened in 1940, when you were 12...if you don’t mind...Some baseball event... Oh, wow....1940 I think...I accompanied my Dad and Clarence Mitchell to Chicago to buy cattle....Mr. Mitchell put up the money, and Dad took care of the cattle in their partnership....the Reds were in town, and there was a pitching matchup of Claude Passau and Bucky Walters at Wrigley.....it was my first look at the Reds of that era.....Lombardi hit a one-hopper to shortstop, and Billy Jurges fielded it.... looked at Lomardi running, looked at the ball...looked at Lombardi running...and finally threw to first to get him out......that was the slowest man running I had ever seen...…...he may have been slower than Benjie Molina who was also notable for being slow...….Walters was impressive that day.....I was a skinny kid, and both Dad and Mr. Mitchell bought me a hotdog.....it was a good day.....it may not have been Jurges playing SS that day, but he was the Cub SS I remember from that era....Lombardi didn't seem to get mad, like Molina did when someone acted like he was going to run the ball to first base to beat Molina to the bag...

J. D. Martinez has only played in more than 120 Games once in his career, and he’s already played in 100 this year. His good health has been a bonus for them. He’s hitting over .320 and leading the league in HR, RBI, and TB. He’s within reach of the Triple Crown...
That, and healthy pitching would appear to be the keys to their amazing consistency...

Thank you so much for indulging me. That’s a great memory though, and reminds that baseball players, like Clarence Mitchell were working men with other careers in those days. The baseball gave them a leg up on the general population because of the fame and extra money, but it alone didn’t make them wealthy. Wow! Two hot dogs in one day for a skinny kid. That day alone may have been the day you started bulking up!!! (:

what happened to the cashman's guy word correction? People complained about it. I took it out. More specifically a great senior man with greater insight and wisdom than most of us spoke up about the censorship and freedom that was being impinged upon. That had never occurred to me because of the light-hearted air and light moderation of this site until he pointed it out. I think it was the correct thing to do. Life is not one big party. We have to get serious once in s while...

Utah, is this the same Clarence Mitchell that pitched for most of the National League teams back in the teens and twenties?

What a great first start for Happ (granted it was against KCR) but he gives me hope that this was the right move. He was the one guy who made the most sense to me looking at the numbers relative to cost.

Utah, is this the same Clarence Mitchell that pitched for most of the National League teams back in the teens and twenties? yes, it is.....the old spitballer…..I was born on a ranching/farm in Nebraska, near Hastings, where Mr. Mitchell lived....he and my father were partners in cattle...Dad had the land, and Clarence had the money to buy and sell....I was never privy to the business side, but I did hear about some of players of his era.....in general he disliked the Cardinals, as I recall....thought Ruth was a jerk ( although he knew I was a Yankee fan, so he was gentle about it)….he was as enthralled with DiMaggio as I was...he once said that he had not seen anyone in the NL as good...he was a good man...

I took it out. yep.....there is something intrinsically wrong with changing someone else's words either by software or manually....I won't participate if that is the policy...You guys can type Cashman's Guy if you wish….it was a very thin joke from the first, but if it seems clever or funny, by all means, continue.....

I'm totally joking yea the Cashman's guy thing did get stale after a while I agree. I thought "Mr. Wisdom" was inger. I better call off the pitchfork mob that I paid to send to his house tonight. Inger if the call isn't cancelled in time I hear Jeters bat you can use as a weapon is buried under the 3rd stop sign in the middle of town. Good Luck.

I'm not Mr. Wisdom, but somehow I have become a mystic of some proportions for Dome and Tequila when they're drunk. Or high on peyote. Which means pretty much it's a full-time position... BTW, believe it or not most of the area I live in has dirt roads and just yield signs...We're like the "Dukes of Hazzard" out here..."Ya done scuffed by ve-hicle"...
