Just another NCAA coach that will get paid to do nothing, business as usual in college football. Yes, indeed. Coach O will be paid nearly 17 million not to coach at LSU. Not a bad gig if you can get it. Both he and Mullen just signed extensions not long ago, O after the National Championship and Mullin after getting Florida to the SEC Championship game last season. It just illustrates what universities have become. I was very lucky to have caught the last vestiges of a college as place of higher learning before the transformation to essentially a corporate cash cow. Rizz, if you recall the 1932 Marx Brothers film "Horsefeathers," Groucho as university President Quincy Adams Wagstaff admonished the Administration that it needed to build a university that the football team could be proud of. But yeah, every day is Bobby Bonilla Day in college football and basketball. It's still not clear to me as an outsider why Coach Orgeron was fired two years removed from a national championship. Loved the clip from "The General." I believe they only had one chance to get that right.

There was article out not too long ago that showed a staggering amount of dead money being paid out to former college football and basketball coaches. It was just an absurd amount of money. I saw that article, Chi. It was over $550 million in buyouts since 2010. Nebraska and Auburn were neck and neck for one and two for both football and basketball coaches.

That was the one, thanks pipps. Just imagine what these universities could do with that kind of money. I love sports, but the NCAA has gotten out of hand, everyone thinks they should be a national title contender....every year.

Anyone else of the opinion that it is a disgrace that the multi-billion dollar industry NFL will not institute full-time, professional officials? fansided.com/2021/11/22/nfl-officiating-crisis-fix-2021/The no call below kept the Saints out of the Super Bowl. So obvious that the ball arrived three feet after the defense, who had no idea where the ball was, never turning his head and prevented an attempt to catch the pass. Two different reasons to call pass interference were ignored.

Absolutely amazing. The Saints have 14 starters out tonight due to injury. It’s going to be a tough season from here on out. Despite losing a ton of depth from their salary cap purge this season, they were 5-2 and could have easily been 6-1. Once the injury bug hit, they just haven’t been able to compete like in the past. A cerebral quarterback like Drew Brees who changed plays at the line of scrimmage, called out protections for the offensive line, and ran flawless two-minute drills can offset so many deficiencies during a season. Hall of Fame quarterbacks do not come along very often for individual franchises, which makes it unfortunate the Saints could not or would not field representative defenses during Brees’ prime like the Patriots always did with Brady.

I have Bills defense and their TE so go Bills tonight.

You should have made out quite well. Difficult to watch a team that is not close to being competitive. Too many starters out. We all know the adage of "any give Sunday, " but when a team has essentially back ups and third stringers, it gets ugly quickly.

Hopefully, Taysom Hill is recovered enough from his concussion to go next week cause Siemian just isn't it.

14 starters out? That's nuts. Sometimes it isn't your year. I remember one year the Colts started a different o-line line-up every game (I'm a Colts fan) because of constant injuries. On a Monday night game some guard who I'd never heard of got hurt in the 2d quarter. Announcers gave his name and said he'd been with team since...noon. Not their year.

Then, you know exactly the feeling! There were many Saints' fans who pulled for the Colts when they had Peyton Manning and Joseph Addai, who played at LSU. You were probably a Colts' fan from their Baltimore days? Were you a fan of another LSU boy, Yelberton Abraham Tittle, Jr.?

Tittle was a bit before my time (thought he played for the Giants, anyway), but was a big fan of another Louisiana guy, the Ruston(?) Rifle--Bert Jones.

I as right with you until I retired from football fandom for non-political reasons. I’m aware of the political stuff, and it’s not helping me to want to come back… Mostly it’s the inflated offense that apparently so many love…

Yep, Ruston is the location of Louisiana Tech, where Terry Bradshaw played his college football. Bert Jones often gets over looked, but he had as much arm talent as anyone. You probably know this, speaking of arm talent, but Bradshaw held the collegiate record for the javelin for many years.

That Colts team had one of my Penn State boys, Lydell Mitchell, as its leading rusher. Also Texas Longhorn Roosevelt Leaks. Jones's favorite receiving target was Roger Carr, who played at Louisiana Tech just after Bradshaw left. Also Glenn Doughty and Raymond Chester. I watched YA Tittle play many times, both with the 49ers and later with the Giants. He was a great one. With the 49ers in the mid-50s he was part of a backfield quartet which all made the HOF -- Tittle, Joe "The Jet" Perry, Hugh McIlhenny and John Henry Johnson. Those are four genuinely great players who are mostly unknown today, except for possibly Tittle. JaMarcus Russell was another LSU QB, although obviously his college success did not translate to the NFL.

Recently, I watched an NFL Films piece on the greatest running back tandems, and Perry, McIlhenny, and Johnson were on the list as a trio, as were Csonka, Morris, and Kiick. JaMarcus Russell at 6’6” and 260 pounds was a bigger Cam Newton, and he could throw a football 80 yards from his knees. Unfortunately, Russell had the proverbial million dollar arm and nickel head. At LSU, as at many programs, coaches are much more akin to surrogate parents. In the NFL, he was left to his own devices, which entailed partying with hangers-on and getting drunk on a concoction called “Purple Drank,” which is comprised of grape Kool-Aid and grape flavored cough syrup with Codeine. What a waste of a number one pick in the first round.
