After four years of Trump ― and two elections ― social scientists and pollsters have produced plenty of research and evidence to debunk the argument that white voters chose Trump out of economic interest.
Overwhelmingly they’ve found that Americans who chose Trump were worried about losing their social status, their place in a country where white folks will soon be in the minority and where many women no longer seem to realize that men should be in charge.

The pro-Trump rioters brought handguns, pistols, assault rifles, and “a shit ton” of ammunition. One insurrectionist smuggled a handgun and an extra 12-round magazine onto the U.S. Capitol grounds. Another was arrested with a Smith & Wesson firearm in his pocket and had an assault rifle, a second handgun, ammunition and 11 Molotov cocktails in a truck he had parked around the corner.
At a hotel just blocks from the riot, a man parked a trailer carrying an assault rifle, a Glock and hundreds of armor-piercing rounds. Texting family, he fantasized about finding House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and “putting a bullet in her noggin on Live TV.”
Last week’s unprecedented riot at the U.S. Capitol ended with five dead, including a Capitol Police officer the rioters beat to death, and countless officers and journalists assaulted by the mob. But the rioters came prepared to cause far greater carnage.
As the list of arrestees grows, so does the evidence of how much firepower the mob brought with it. According to a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, the man, Guy Reffitt, was charged with obstruction of justice and knowingly entering a restricted building without lawful authority.
In an affidavit, an FBI agent described Reffitt as an apparent militia member who traveled from suburban Dallas to Washington with a Smith & Wesson pistol to help "protect his country."
In an interview with the FBI, Reffitt's son said his father told his family that he had gone to the Capitol while wearing a GoPro camera attached to a helmet.
Reffitt is alleged to have later threatened to "put a bullet through" his daughter's cellphone if she recorded or mentioned his comments on social media, the affidavit says.
Reffitt's wife told investigators that during an argument, he told his children that if one of them turned him in, "you're a traitor and you know what happens to traitors ... traitors get shot."

MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, who has pushed claims of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election, says several retailers will stop selling his brand's products.
In a Right Side Broadcasting interview Monday night, Lindell said he spoke to Bed Bath & Beyond and Kohl's representatives and that both said they would discontinue selling the pillows.

Twitter will not allow Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene to access her account for the next 12 hours due to multiple company policy violations, NPR reports.
Greene has been known to share tweets endorsing QAnon conspiracy theories, and on Sunday, she engaged in a lengthy discourse claiming election fraud in her state. A number of those tweets were flagged with a note stating, "This claim about election fraud is disputed, and this Tweet can't be replied to, Retweeted, or liked due to a risk of violence."
After the permanent suspension of Donald Trump's account, Greene released a statement in regards to being temporarily shut out of Twitter, clinging to the dangerously false narrative that conservatives have been intentionally targeted by the platform in an effort to try and suppress their freedom of speech.
"Conservative Americans shouldn't be afraid to speak their mind. They shouldn't have to fear being cancelled by American corporations where they work, do business, and use services," she said, per CNN. "They shouldn't be scared into submission by Socialists who want to end their way of life."
Greene's temporary ban comes at a time where Twitter has come down hard on thousands of accounts that have been identified for spreading "harmful QAnon-associated content" as Joe Biden's inauguration draws near. Twitter has since suspended more than 70,000 accounts.
Last week, Greene, who has ties to QAnon, announced plans to file articles of impeachment over "abuse of power" against Joe Biden on Jan. 21, the day after his inauguration. The move is undoubtedly in response to Trump's second impeachment for "incitement of insurrection" after his supporters breached the U.S. Capitol earlier this month over what they falsely believed to be a stolen presidential election.

He was arrested on charges of attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization and attempting to murder U.S. military service members. He faces up to 40 years in prison. A criminal complaint alleges that Bridges started "researching and consuming online propaganda promoting jihadists and their violent ideology" and expressing his support for ISIS on social media beginning in at least 2019. He joined the Army in September of that year.

“This is sick. Willie, it’s especially sick and damaging. Here we are, what, a couple weeks after an insurrection against the United States of America?” the Morning Joe host continued, before pivoting to Fox News’s recent ratings decline.

A year into the COVID-19 pandemic, the virus continues to wreak havoc on the U.S., forcing schools and businesses in major cities to shutter. Now a new study from the University of Southern California is shedding light on one problem that may be contributing to the continued spread: inconsistent mask wearing.
The research, released on Thursday by USC’s Center for Economic and Social Research, comes from the group’s Understanding America Study, a nationally representative online sample of more than 6,000 respondents. While the vast majority of those polled agreed that masks are an effective way to combat COVID-19, just 51 percent said they consistently wear a mask when hanging out with people outside their household. The numbers become even more stark when divided by race.
White people, the researchers found, were the least likely of any race to wear a mask consistently, with just 46 percent reporting that they wear one while in close contact with people they do not live with. That was compared with 67 percent of Black people, 63 percent of Latinos and 65 percent of people from other races.

Police don’t seem to have felt the need to markedly adjust how they treat Black people, despite the various protests and marches last year against their persisting culture of aggression and violence against African Americans.
Deputies from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office in Michigan exposed that sad truth when they started off 2021 by accosting and arresting a Black man named La’Ron Marshall for the non-crime of walking through his neighborhood and collecting signatures for a petition, reports Insider.
A video captured by a witness to the arrest that took place on her property shows an unidentified officer falsely accusing Marshall of soliciting and then threatening him with arrest.
“I’ve got the right to petition, what am I being arrested for?” Marshall asks.
“Hindering and opposing,” the deputy says nonsensically, after Marshall denies a demand to disclose what he was collecting signatures for and show his I.D. The deputy adds that he was responding to a call from someone about Marshall.
Though the woman whose porch the whole thing is happening on repeats that Marshall did nothing wrong and lives in the neighborhood, the officer goes forward with arresting the Black man—and in the presence of children who can be heard crying.
Later on in the 10-minute video, the arresting deputy can be seen shoving Marshall into a patrol car with force. This shamefully typical story of an interaction between a law enforcement officer and an innocent Black man at least has a somewhat silver-lining: the deputy who disregarded the victim’s constitutional rights—not to mention his appeal to them that he was a resident of the neighborhood—has been fired for his actions.
“The conduct and actions of this case, in which Mr. Marshall was collecting signatures, does not represent our commitment to our community,” said the Calhoun County’s Sheriff’s Office in a statement on Friday announcing the deputy’s termination. “The actions that Mr. Marshall took that day of circulating a petition are protected by our constitution.”Body cam video shows police officer's fatal shooting of a Black man during a mental health check. |

Republicans knew they had a Marjorie Taylor Greene problem back in the summer of 2020 when she was running for Congress. House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) called the QAnon supporter’s comments about Black people and Muslims “disgusting,” while a spokesman for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) called them “appalling.” Scalise backed her primary opponent.
Then she won, and Republicans tried to put a good face on it — even falsely claiming she had disavowed QAnon and suggesting we should move on.
That posture is looking increasingly untenable.
Now that Greene is in Congress, the situation has spun further out of control for the GOP, with a steady stream of revelations about her extreme views and advocacy for fringe causes and conspiracy theories. That stream combined with Greene’s puzzling defense of herself should make Republicans wonder how long they can put up with this.
Tuesday’s new revelation is particularly pertinent — and ugly. CNN’s K-File reported that Greene’s Facebook feed featured several endorsements of violence against Democrats and federal agents.
In one case, she liked a comment that said “a bullet to the head would be quicker” than removing Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) from her speakership.
She also liked a comment about Pelosi that said “through removal or death, doesn’t matter, as long as she goes.”
She responded to another commenter who suggested hanging former president Barack Obama and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton by saying, “Stage is being set. Players are being put in place. We must be patient. This must be done perfectly or liberal judges would let them off.”
She also liked comments suggesting execution for FBI agents who were viewed as working with the “deep state” against then-President Trump.

A Donald Trump-loving auto repair shop owner from Napa County, Calif. who wanted to “go to war” over the election was charged with possessing five pipe bombs that were unregistered destructive devices, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California David Anderson announced Tuesday. The bombs were in addition to 49 firearms and more than 15,000 rounds of ammunition.
Ian Benjamin Rogers, 44, was arrested on Jan. 15 and is facing five counts of possessing a destructive device, five other counts of possessing a destructive device at a private habitation, and one count of possessing a destructive device with intent to injure, in addition to myriad other weapons charges.
“We allege that Ian Benjamin Rogers possessed homemade pipe bombs and the materials to make more,” Anderson said. “We draw a bright line between lawlessness and our constitutional freedoms. We will prosecute illegal weapons stockpiles regardless of the motivation of the offender.”

According to the criminal complaint, several of the firearms seized from Rogers’ home and business were capable of fully automatic firing, including “what appears to be a kit-built replica MG-42 belt-fed machine gun” which a firearms expert is currently examining.
“I know from my own research and discussions with other agents and officers that the MG-42 was a machine gun produced in Germany during World War II for use by Nazi troops,” FBI Special Agent Stephanie Minor said in an affidavit supporting the criminal complaint.

This time, Greene faced backlash for the re-emergence of a video in which she is harassing David Hogg — a survivor of the deadly mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
The video shows Greene following and taunting Hoggs only weeks after the Parkland, FL shooting occurred.
“Do you not know how to defend your stance?” she said after he refuses to engage with her by walking away. Greene then accuses him of using children to take away her Second Amendment rights.
As they cross another block with her trailing behind, she starts to question how Hogg managed to get appointments with 30 senators in addition to “major press coverage.”
Hogg does not respond, and after a minute and a half, she stops following him, turns to the camera, and says: “He’s got nothing to say. Sad. He has nothing to say because there really isn’t anything to say, you guys.

Washington (CNN)GOP state senators in Georgia introduced a slate of bills on Monday that seek to roll back voter access in the state, such as "no excuse" absentee voting and automatic voter registration.
If passed, the eight proposed measures -- which follow elections where Democrats made historic gains in the state -- could considerably reshape Georgia's electorate and have a significant impact on the 2022 midterm elections. Republicans, echoing a baseless argument frequently made by former President Donald Trump, claim that the measures are necessary to prevent voter fraud, even though no evidence exists that it played a factor in the outcome of the 2020 election.
One of the bills would require an excuse to vote absentee, undoing a 2019 law allowing no-excuse absentee voting. Under the bill, voters would need to be 75 years old or older, absent from their precinct, observing a religious holiday, have a physical disability, be required to provide constant care for someone with a physical disability, or required to work "for the protection of the health, life, or safety of the public during the entire time the polls are open" to qualify to vote absentee.
The bills would also ban ballot drop boxes and require voters to provide identification when they request an absentee ballot application.
