I see our old friend Shawn Kelley is now on the A’s. I liked him when he was in NY, but he just seemed to linger on edge of being a real good pitcher. Just couldn’t get over the hump.
He’s now in his 10th MLB season. He’s fanned 460 in 400 innings, and has a respectable 3.73 career ERA. His biggest problem remains the same one he had in NY. He carries a very hungry gopher in his pocket. He’s fed that little sucker 64 HRs, which is quite a lot for a relief pitcher. Still gets his fair share of Ks, though...

Future hall of famer Yoan Moncada is batting .220/.302/.396/.698 with 157 Ks in 104 games. Only Joey Gallo and Chris Davis have a worse K-rate in the Majors. Moncada is also a complete black hole against LHP with his .167 avg and .515 OPS...guy is basically a platoon level player.

Moncada is also a complete black hole against LHP with his .167 avg and .515 OPS...guy is basically a platoon level player. Yes and the Red Sox landed Chris Sale for what turned out to be a bargain price. |

Yes and the Red Sox landed Chris Sale for what turned out to be a bargain price. In some ways I could see describing it as a bargain just looking at what they gave up. Like the deal with the Dodgers a few years prior, Boston has been remarkable at getting teams to take on their mistakes. At the same time, Boston also wrote off a $63,000,000 investment when they gave up Moncada. Accounting aside, Chicago picked up a prospect it cost BOSTON $63m to acquire and I don’t think they assumed any of that expense because it was all signing bonus and the tax for going over the pool money so that should have been entirely Boston’s sunk cost for the mistake they made signing him. That’s brutal. Almost as bad as what the Yankees will pay Ellsbury to do nothing for the next 3 years. |

I'd take the Grandyman for outfield help until Judge comes back. Better than pushing Sugar Shane Robinson out there. |
