Red Sox fire manager John Farrell after 5 yrs
John Farrell has been fired as the manager of the Red Sox.
Farrell led the Red Sox to their eighth World Series championship in 2013 and back-to-back American League East titles in 2016 and 2017, but he's been shown the door following a second straight ALDS ouster. Red Sox president Dave Dombrowski noted in a press release that the search for a new skipper will begin immediately. Farrell spent five years at the helm in Boston, compiling a 432-378 record. He should be in the running for a number of managerial openings around Major League Baseball this winter, assuming the 55-year-old cancer survivor wants to jump right back in with a different team.

No level of success...so why did he wait until the season ended? Was he worried about interrupting Farrell's rhythm?

Dusty gets the boot from the Nationals. They'll try again next year with a new manager.

Its kind of amazing that over the last six seasons the Nationals have averaged 93 wins and have had three different managers that have now come and gone...Davey Johnson, Matt Williams, and Dusty Baker. Manny Acta, who averaged around 65 wins, even lasted 2.5 years with the Nats. Frank Robinson who averaged 77 wins per season between the Expos/Nats lasted 5 seasons with the franchise.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Nats offered Girardi a blank check. I do know that in his team's biggest game of the season Girardi wouldn't bring in some average reliever just because he throws with his left hand, instead of using his best pitchers, like Dusty did in the Cubs series. That being said, I think Joe will be back with the Yankees next year unless he chooses not to.
