there are a couple or more big names that the Yankees may have interest in this winter....
Machado, if Andujar cannot improve defensively...
Dallas Keuchel…..any of the top FA's are going to get paid....we could probably do worse..
Clayton Kershaw....some team may get stuck with an expensive pitcher with a chronic back problem....beware(?)……..
Harvey...…
I'm not an expert on who's available...I think Gerrit Cole may be...

Bryce Harper said he would consider 1B for the right team.

Bryce Harper said he would consider 1B for the right team. Same thing Machado said about 3B. I wonder who this "right team" is?

I see the words "right team" decoded as "pays the most money over the most years"...

With just a few exceptions, I would prefer to see the Yankees delve into the trade market more than this free agent class...There remains an overload of prospects who will never see NY. It’s time to utilize some of them while also allowing for some addition by subtraction by clearing the MLB deck a bit of players who have outlived their usefulness on the MLB roster...
I’m still not overly thrilled with either of Machado nor Harper, nor the investment that will be required to lure them into believing the Yankees to be the “right team” for them...
There is no one over the age of thirty on the free agent list that I would recommend be signed. That eliminates almost the entire list...There is also really no one over age thirty that I would particularly want to trade for. We should utilize our excess talent to acquire young, talented, and controllable talent with MLB experience. Judge is my only untouchable player at this point...Anyone a year from free agency would definitely be either signed or offered, even Didi...
If that sounds like I want to blow the team up, no. I just want to be willing to do anything that upgrades and makes sense...Just because I WOULD trade certain players it doesn’t mean I WILL...unless it makes sense...

If the Yankees choose to sign Machado, I hope they don’t sell cheap on Andujar. I like that stinging line drive bat a LOT. I don’t know if the team would keep him as a 1B/DH/3B but I’d hate to see him go...He May outhit Machado going forward...

I'd move Andujar to 1B and see if he can master that position. He'll probably never walk a lot, but you will get a .280 to .300 avg with 60+ extra base hits a year.

Early in the season, I thought Andujar would be adequate defensively at third, and thus did not see an advantage in getting Machado....Andujar has helped a lot with the bat, and given away a lot defensively...I think now that the Yankees will pursue Manny, and if his demands are not outrageous, he will be a Yankee...Andujar projects then as a 1B/DH/OF'er….he has a rifle arm and probably could play RF if 1B was well taken by Voit, or a rejuvenated Bird....Andujar will probably win ROY, and would be a solid trade chip if he didn't have a position with the Yanks...

I think adding another big money free agent would be a mistake and eventually get them right back where they were when the Rodriguez contract and others were weighing down the roster and payroll. We have a young talented team that eventually is also going to have to be paid. Guys like Machado and Harper could be a nice one or two year benefit but eventually will end the way other big contracts have ended, dead money standing in the way of payroll and roster flexibility. I hope Cash stays the course.

I hope Cash stays the course. yes, I doubt anyone wants to go back to the payroll-bound years, but the Yankees are in a position where they have a window of opportunity, do they not?....with payroll space, and young players some years away from free agency...and some improvements that must be made to be among the elite...… The possible argument that the big money should not be spent on position players is a valid one, in my view...I would advocate instead an emphasis on defense, meaning pitching and solid glovework behind that pitching....the need for a re-make of the starting staff this winter seems obvious, and I have been troubled by the porous defense we have seen at times......I hope both Andujar and Torres will be better going forward, and believe they will be better with some coaching and work... I do hope the Yankee go into 2019 with a stronger starting staff...beyond that, I am in agreement that we have good young talent and that plans must be made in payroll to retain a core and to pay them...

Starting pitching, starting pitching and starting pitching. Our defense has been terrible lately but I wouldn't sign Machado to move Andujar somewhere else. It will be interesting to see what happens with Sanchez moving forward. I hope I am wrong but unless he improves defensively I see him DH'ing some, and where does that leave Stanton? Another question might be do we sign Gardner again and if not what do we do with leftfield?
