I'd look into the trade market and see what's available. There's nothing available on the Free Agent market, I just checked. IDK... I'd let Voit try out so to speak in ST but I wouldn't count on him.

I'd let Voit try out so to speak in ST but I wouldn't count on him. yeah....assuming someone like Harper is not signed to play 1B, it should be a competition between Voit and Bird to win a regular job....maybe, just maybe, Bird realizes his potential, but I feel much better than I have for the last 3 years or so about that position...Voit seems quite able to hit .280 with maybe 25-30 homers....I don't think that is beyond him... |

I'd say that's probably Voit's ceiling.. I wouldn't count on him to reach it though. He's a career 288/370/460 hitter in the minors. It'd be nice if we can have some sort of Voit/Bird platoon playing the hot hand.. but I'd still like to get something of a more known commodity... 1B has been an unknown way too long with this team. Even with Tex.. we didn't really KNOW what Tex we were gonna get... he started off so slow every year.. It be nice to have a Mattingly/Tino/Giambi

Mike Axisa suggested trading for Eric Thames in a RAB chat the other day... I think Cash might be able to find something on the trade block.. at the very least to compete with Voit/Bird

It be nice to have a Mattingly/Tino/Giambi at least the lack of production at 1B has been noted by Cashman, and he picked up Voit in trade, and Luke has been productive....I like his AB's....the data Michael Kay gave tonight was that the overall exit velocity on his balls put in play is 6th among all major leaguers with 60 or more data points...while it is a small sample, that is impressive....and for the most part Boone has hit him low in the order, so he hasn't had much protection...tonight, he has been walked twice because they wanted to pitch to Gardner...I think it may have been another brilliant acquisition by Cashman... |

I think a Voit/Bird platoon would be an acceptable option to start the season with next year. One of them may pull away and win the job outright. If not, then we trade...

Since neither Voit or Bird can play another position other than 1B, I don't want both of them on the roster at the same time next season. With all the pitchers teams keep on the rosters now, I don't want to tie up two spots on first base. |
