I mean they won, but unless they were going to do what the rays did (use the "starter" for a bunch of innings) why bother with this opener stuff? They burned 8 pitchers tonight. One positive Zach Britton and Andrew Mccutchen are really starting to look like the players we all remember them to be. Sanchez had to put a little smear into that ninth inning, keeping our appearance of suspect defense alive...Appearance? Well... let’s call it a reality...

Britton’s stuff is repugnant tonight. I like him to close in the post season... I'd resign him. He looks completely back right now. Damn straight. I’d use him to close next year to be honest...Chapman is a special weapon when he’s right...Bit he has to get that knee fixed or he’s never going to be reliable again...Also, there’s the chance he hurts his arm if he keeps pitching through this... The extra speed he generates comes from his tremendous hip turn. Of course when that hip turns, it puts stress on the knee in an unnatural position on every pitch...Knees aren’t made to pronate to the side...Maybe he could get a special replacement knee made with some side torque... 🤭

Good old Sonny blocked our chance for a no-hitter...

Maybe he's playing chess while you guys are analyzing his moves by tic-tac-toe metrics. Gotta be, right? Good thing baseball games never go more than 9 innings.

Good old Sonny blocked our chance for a no-hitter... I thought he pitched well, didn't get a lot of help from his defense.

I didn't get to see that part of the game because I ran out for groceries. The numbers didn't look great, but I was a bit curious as to why Boone would: A: Use Tarpley in the second instead of going to Gray at that point. B: Pull Sonny after just two innings I guess he wanted to get his entire bullpen "going"...Well, they went...Let's hope that doesn't bite him in the arse tomorrow...

I didn't read this until after I made my post about getting the entire bullpen "going". Great minds think alike. Sometimes we do too!!!

I give Tarpley some credit, after that horrible debut, he's looked a lot better.

Might as well make this the game thread for tonight.
1. Andrew McCutchen (R) LF 2. Aaron Judge (R) RF 3. Aaron Hicks (S) CF 4. Giancarlo Stanton (R) DH 5. Luke Voit (R) 1B 6. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B 7. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B 8. Gary Sanchez (R) C 9. Adeiny Hechavarria (R) SS
Lineup doesn't look right without Didi. I’d like to just point out that since I accidentally started the game thread I am now 1-0 and will end the season undefeated this year. I am The Meat Tray.

As we continue to condemn Gardner to his Yankee death, it’s so easy to forget catches like that... that’s why I’d be thrilled if he would accept a backup role and stick around another year or so...One year at a time. That was a super-catch... If he was ok with a 1-2 year deal and a significantly reduced salary and role, I’d be ok with that also. My guess is he’ll seek a starting job somewhere else. He’s a pretty competitive guy.
