www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/yankees-gm-insists-gary-sanchez-not-available-in-trades/ar-BBOwZZA Those who were hoping that Gary Sanchez would be available in trade talks will have to look elsewhere. New York Yankees GM Brian Cashman told YES announcer Michael Kay that teams have been inquiring about Sanchez, but they are being told he is not available. Teams may be viewing Sanchez as a buy-low candidate because the 25-year-old is coming off a season in which he batted just .186. Sanchez dealt with a groin injury, made some embarrassing plays in the field, and still faces questions about whether or not he’s good enough defensively to be a big-league catcher. Still, he’s the same guy who smashed 53 home runs over his first 177 games. The Yankees aren’t going to part with a powerful bat like that very easily.

--http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/yanks-considering-bringing-back-happ-sabathia-for-2019/ar-BBOF6AV With the offseason now underway for the Yankees, general manager Brian Cashman discussed several topics of interest in an interview with Mike Francesa of WFAN earlier this week. As free agency and trade season approach, the Yankees are expected to be among the majors’ most active teams in the starting pitching market – especially considering left-handers J.A. Happ and CC Sabathia are without contracts. Indeed, Cashman revealed: “We’re excited about adding to our rotation. It’s going to be a focus point for us, and there’s going to be a lot of competition, regardless of the available players out there. We need to continue to reinforce that rotation.” As for Happ and Sabathia, Cashman declared that “they’re going to get a lot of consideration, not just from us but from a lot of people.” The 36-year-old Happ, whom New York acquired from Toronto in July, fit in well with the Yankees during the regular season and is now fresh off his fourth straight strong campaign. He seems like a shoo-in to land a multiyear deal, whereas Sabathia, 38, may have to settle for his second consecutive one-year pact. A Yankee since 2009, Sabathia re-signed with the team for $10M last offseason and then continued his late-career renaissance during the 2018 campaign. Real underwhelming and uninspiring hire by the Angels. I'd be annoyed if I was an Angles fan.

Starting pitchers (available free agents)
Patrick Corbin (29 years old, 6.3 WAR) Dallas Keuchel (31, 3.6) Clayton Kershaw (31, 3.5) -- Can opt out of the two years and $65 million remaining on his contract. J.A. Happ (36, 3.2) Charlie Morton (35, 3.1) Lance Lynn (32, 2.9) David Price (33, 2.7) -- Can opt out of the four years and $127 million remaining on his contract. CC Sabathia (38, 2.5) Anibal Sanchez (35, 2.4) Nathan Eovaldi (29, 2.2) Gio Gonzalez (33, 2.0) Hyun-Jin Ryu (32, 2.0) Trevor Cahill (31, 2.0) Derek Holland (32, 2.0) Clay Buchholz (34, 1.9) Wade Miley (32, 1.5) Matt Harvey (30, 1.4) Jeremy Hellickson (32, 1.2) Garrett Richards (32, 1.0) Tyson Ross (32, 1.0) Brett Anderson (31, 0.9) Edwin Jackson (35, 0.7) Adam Wainwright (37, 0.5) -- Reached agreement on one-year contract with Cardinals. (Oct. 11, 2018) Marco Estrada (35, 0.5) Francisco Liriano (35, 0.3) Bartolo Colon (46, 0.2) Jaime Garcia (32, 0.0) Drew Pomeranz (30, -0.3) Miguel Gonzalez (35, -0.3) Chris Tillman (31, -0.4) Hisashi Iwakuma (35, N/A) -- Didn't appear in the Majors in 2018.
Not much here in terms of top notch talent. Corbin and Eovaldi are the youngest in this group, which are the two I'd target. Severino, Tanaka, Corbin, Eovaldi, and both Happ/Sabathia on one year deals. Six starters for five spots. Or, kick the tires on Keuchel and say goodbye to either Happ or Sabathia.

I'd say Corbin, Happ (1 year), Morton (1 year), CC (1 year), and Eovaldi would interest the Yanks. I'd forget about Kershaw who would be way too expensive and will probably end up back with the Dodgers any way. The rest of the list I'd have no interest in.

I think we should sign Keuchel, make him shave that stupid beard off, and then flip him... (:
Yep, if not Corbin or Eovaldi, then I'd turn to the trade market. I'd have to look at Kershaw if the Dodgers let him get away...even though I'd feel like I was volunteering for another DL mainstay...I might take a look at Ryu if he winds up being one of those guys that draws little interest and winds up having to sign a one year make good deal, too...And I know this may be our last chance to reacquire Jamie Garcia, yet I pass on him. Does that make me a bad person???
****Tip for all you little leaguers out there. IF you are left-handed and can manage to sport a records of 13-8 and 13-7 at ages 23 and 24 in MLB, you milk the hell out of the rest of your time in MLB and have 70 wins at age 31...you, too can be like Jaime Garcia and have made over $60M by that age and still be milking and bilking your way to additional contracts based on your "potential"...

You'd most assuredly never get Happ or Morton on 1 year deals. They're going to want 4 years and settle for 2/3 for Happ and 3/4 for Morton...

Just one concern about Asdrubal...Don't you think his best SS days are behind him? I know he's a temp patch, but what if Didi doesn't make it back all season???
