I was hoping this news would break up the Sunday Night Arod/Mendoza team, but sadly, they'll continue. Those ESPN broadcasts are nearly unwatchable. It's like watching three people who have the game on in the background while they chit-chat about everything except the actual game. It is not that difficult to go through an entire inning without them once saying who is up to bat. Jessica seems like a nice person, but you would think that the bar would be a little higher than that to get hired as a network broadcaster. On top of that, A-Rod’s ego about his performance is not at all in sync with the reality that he used PEDs to “accomplish” what he did. Then to hear Jessica speak, you’d think she played MLB right alongside the boys herself. Not to belittle her sport (okay, maybe to go ahead and belittle it a bit) the competition level was certainly nowhere near on par. Is it wrong for me to say I’d prefer listening to a male broadcaster on a male sporting event? I’ll say it anyway. What the Hell, it’s wrong to say a lot of stuff these days...

I never enjoyed the humor much. Russ, maybe it's time for some more humor in your life? I run stats and SQL for a living. I have plenty of chances for graveyard humor.

And Alex Rodriguez. The truth is, most fans love hearing from some guy who played the game whose name they recognize. Doesn't matter if what he says makes sense. Or if he cheated to become the guy who played the game whose name they recognize. There's not a lot of deep thinking going on, on either side of the broadcast. Honestly, I thought she was the best part of those broadcasts, but that's damning with faint praise, if any.

That's probably true for most sports fans. And it probably isn't an accident that almost all women the networks are willing to hire are attractive while that's clearly not a requirement for men working in the industry. I like competence. I would gladly prefer a lot of the women working in the sports media over Sterling and Waldman, but they're not going anywhere. The woman now covering the Yankees as the beat writer for The Athletic seems really solid. Looking forward to seeing what her coverage of the team looks like this year. I definitely welcome a fresh perspective on the team.

I just mute the tv which makes watching games a lot easier. Especially on YES. You know John and Suzie don’t do TV, right? It’s safe to listen to YES. You should try it. You’d learn a lot...

I watched YES for many years now...Cone was the only announcer I cared for. I’m not sure you know what you’re missing, Russ. Of course it’s up to you how much you really want to know about the team and where you like to get the info from. There are times you ask questions on here that show yiu’re Looking for information that some of us already have. Some of that info does come from watching and listening to the games. Either way, you’re loved here, and we can answer some questions for from time to time. You’re a smart guy...

I just mute the tv which makes watching games a lot easier. Especially on YES. I think the YES tv broadcast is as good as any baseball broadcast for any team or national network. I would have a hard time thinking of what the honest complaint is about the YES broadcast. I could see someone just not preferring Kay, but he's just one part of the broadcast and he's not out of line with the play by play guys for most teams. I think I somewhat prefer Orsillo who used to be in Boston and is now in SD, but I saw one of their games on the MLB package and the overall broadcast doesn't come close to YES, which makes sense given how much money YES spends on the product.

I got tired of the "see you...'when they hit a home run. And boosterism on YES which is a bit much for me. I liked the color comments by players, but it was not worth listening to the play by play. I am not saying YES is worse, I mute all games except NESN which for whatever reason I enjoyed the announcers on. In good part because they are low key. Strange to like Boston announcers more than Yankee ones.
I don't learn easily by listening. I have to read it to internalize information. This is true generally, attending class rarely helped me, I had to read the material to pick it up. We all learn differently.
