That makes sense, too. It’s quite odd how much the landscape gets adjusted when a few changes are made...
One would expect teams to want to retain players more since they’d hit free agency younger, so maybe fewer players would be lost?...

This is the kind of thing that can push the MLBPA to force a work stoppage. I read things like this and think that MLB and ownership is not very bright. The problem with a strike for free agency is there is no way you can make teams buy players they don't want. What baseball players see as a conspiracy is actually a changing view of what makes teams successful. So regardless of what they do, they can not win because teams are not going to do things they don't think works.
A wiser decision would be to get a guaranteed amount of total revenue. But the nature of the union probably works against that. Stars, who I imagine run the unions would probably prefer free agency (if teams would follow it).

They’re not going to strike just for free agency. My point is that when Ownership is swimming in record revenue and profits and plays games with the actual talent that makes the product exist and plays that game in as sloppy a way as they’re apparently doing, such that a free agent gets no offers but then gets seven identical offers they destroy trust. The MLBPA is getting backed into a corner solely because ownership is so arrogantly. History repeats itself.

We saw this with the NFL owners and the Kap settlement. It's unbelievable the mistakes these owners make based mostly on greed, do they not realize how good they have it?

I agree that players are getting a bad deal. My suggestion is they need a mechanism other than free agency, like revenue sharing, to address this because free agency is a deal they can not win on regardless.
