Chuck, that is one of the best rants ever on this forum. I laughed out loud at the concept of the double-parked pitcher and the bouncing ball. Finishing behind Boston three years in a row is sufficient, thank you very much.

I just took a quick peek at FanGraphs to see where Andujar wound up on the AL fielding chart for third baseman. Out of 91 3B he was 91st...Wow...I mean...Noonie was 14th...And it's small comfort that Devers was 87th...

I agree with you totally that they should spend enough to match Boston's payroll. If they still want to remain under the luxury cap, it will be a big disappointment. Right, I thought the meaning behind getting under the luxury cap in 2018 was so the the Yanks could reset the penalties back to zero, thus being able to increase the budget for 2019.

I hope this is NOT TRUE: www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/report-yankees-interest-in-machado-will-depend-on-price-tag/ar-BBPlBcQ
It turns out the New York Yankees might have some interest in Manny Machado after all.
Although they've previously been said to be "lukewarm" on the prospect of signing the All-Star infielder, the Yankees will reportedly take a look at Machado this winter - but their interest will depend on how much money he's asking for, according to Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports.
Heyman added that upgrading starting pitching remains New York's offseason priority, regardless of its level of interest in Machado.
The Yankees have long been connected to Machado, who they know well from their AL East battles with his former team, the Baltimore Orioles.
But his up-and-down postseason with the Los Angeles Dodgers, which included an admission that hustling isn't his "cup of tea," appears to have changed the Yankees' perception of the 26-year-old.
"We're open to him but a lot more discussion is necessary," a Yankees insider told Wallace Matthews of the New York Daily News on Sunday. "The character thing is important. It also depends on how much he wants and who else is out there." READ MORE...

I had to post something. I had no choice. I saw that no one had posted anything on the site in 11 hours. It made me think of those old western shows where the deputy says to the Marshall “It sure is quiet tonight, Marshall”. Then the Marshall says, “Yep. Too quiet.” Then the gunfire starts...
The GMs are on the way to their meeting. Who will fire the first round? Will the Yanks pull the trigger on Robbie Ray? Or one of the Cleveland pitchers? I have a feeling that if that happens, we’re trading Stanton. Cashman won’t want to strip the farm back down to it’s undies...

Nobody will take Stanton’s contract.

Nobody will take Stanton’s contract. And he'll never waive his no trade clause. And Cashman would never give up on him after one year.

Nobody will take Stanton’s contract. Munch, munch, munch. Now that we’ve gotten past the Luxury Tax goal, perhaps contracts like this and Ellsbury’s can be more easily absorbed into the huge sponge of Steinbrenner wealth...

You would think not, but then again...Stanton is still an incredibly effective hitter, and a desirable player who is still quite young. With the Dodgers, Phillies, and Cardinals all talking about throwing money around like it’s Halloween candy...Who knows? I personally hate to see him go after wishing him into the Yankees for several years before he got here. I just have a suspicion that he may be the odd man out this season as the team strives to become more pitching and defense oriented without emptying the farm. I’m also concerned about where Andujar is going to fit going forward. I suppose that given his FanGraphs fielding ranking of 91st out of 91 among AL 3B, I should be hoping they jettison him...But that bat sure looks lethal...I would suppose he might bring back a nice pitcher if he’s packsged with a decent prospect (but not one of our studs)...

The first-step quickness that Andujar lacks wouldn't be an issue in LF. And he's got enough speed and way more than enough arm to be a + defender there. Think RH version of Alex Gordon. On a different note, a deal involving Sonny Gray and Scooter Gennett is intriguing. Cashman signing Marwin Gonzales to play 2B or 3B would be interesting, too. Strengthen the rotation, improve 3B defense, find an adequate fix for DiDi's absence, add 2 LH bats, and win the World Series!!

The defense we've enjoyed with Gardner in LF all these years is full continent away from what we'd get from a neophyte LF...I have visions of the ball bouncing off the wall, off Andujar, back off the wall, Andujar kicking it and running around for hours...LF in Yankee Stadium is nothing to toy with...

Adventures in delusional sports agents!
“According to Fancred’s Jon Heyman, agent Dave Meter is making quite the strong pitch to teams looking to sign his client. That pitch is:
He’s the best all time. Not just recently but all time. Lowest ERA, lowest batting average against, lowest OPS against. Also: he saved all his chances even this postseason.”

Again, the team isn’t going anywhere without replacing Didi’s offense and defense at shortstop.
