At 94, life is over for our former President. As a non-partisan, I found him to be a seemingly pleasant man, but perplexing to assess. He seemed too "gentle" to me to run a country, but with the family connections to the oil industry, I'm certain he was anything but that. I can't really remember him for much, too be honest. I remember him bringing the world "nuc-ULAR" into my living room, and re-invigorating the use of the word "prudent". I recall him saying famously "Read my lips! No new taxes" and then faced with reality reneging on that promise. Of course he was also a President with an extra initial. GHWB. At the time I had no idea we'd see his son in office a few years later.
The years he (GHWB) was in office were certainly not good Yankee years, what with the team having players lead them in WAR named Steve Sax, Melido Perez, Roberto Kelly...and playing mostly under .500 ball by a long shot...
Perhaps I should leave it to others to comment on him. I'm simply not political enough...But in any event, anyone that makes it to 94 has pretty well. And with about 70 years of service to his country, to boot. Whether the service was rated highly or not, that's a lot of years working in government between his military years and political years...

You could make the case that George H.W. Bush did more good after he was president than during his 4 years in office.

He assembled a huge coalition to quickly crush Saddam and could have knocked him off in ‘91, but pulled back because he accomplished what he said he would. He was a moderate conservative who believed in reaching across the aisle and consensus. He became best friends with the guy that beat him in ‘92. A genuine war hero and a member of the greatest generation. The antithesis of the type of division we see today.

Excellent point that the elder Bush continued to work for the country long after his term expired. I believe he at the least had great intentions. Sometimes intentions don’t bring results. Sometimes they do. The man did more good than bad, and any bad he did was likely unintentional. What more can we ask?
Noted today that he went skydiving for his 90th birthday. Wow. I might do that for my 90th birthday. That is, if I’m completely bonkers at the time and someone ties me up and tapes my mouth shut before pushing me out of the airplane...

Glad someone gets it re George Bush Sr. From his criminal Nazi supporting father to his criminal 911 son, the world will be a better place when the whole family is gone. That said, rest in peace George, where ever you may be.

That said, rest in peace George, where ever you may be. Sad that our leadership always seems to have ties to underworld activity. Trump is taking a pounding now, or perhaps I should say soon will be. This was addressed briefly by me a few days ago in the thread that has been set aside for full political discussion, but got no reply. It seems we don’t do a good job of vetting our leaders before we go to the polls. Even worse, we as a people get little choice of whom the candidates will be. So we march to the polls like lemmings marching to their death in the sea, checking the box for the best among the worst. It takes a lot of money to get elected. It takes massive amounts even to get a voice in the process, and quite obviously you must “know” certain people, and play by their rules. Yes, I agree that the Bush’s have a lot of Middle-East connections, and aren’t all sweetness and good...I may be blind, but I also believe the son to be worse than the father. At least he was more unlikeable...

Isn’t that true with every celebrity death? It was years before I could stand to listen to Whitney Houston song again after we were deluged with her music for what seemed an eternity after her passing. I still struggle with that a bit. And she had a beautiful voice and was beautiful to look at as well... But the over-exposure left me with a sort of PTSD for her work..,

Any historical discussion of George H. W. Bush's legacy is tethered to some very ugly truths. I would disagree that the son was worse than the father (as a person). In my opinion, W is more the good-natured, ungrammatical dupe - born to power and privilege, easily manipulated, but probably harmless left to his own devices. A guy who you'd probably enjoy sitting next to at a ballgame and sharing a dog and a beer. W's father and grandfather were the robber-barron type...nefarious actors for power and profit disguised as public service. Read General Smedley Butler's short treatise, "War is a Racket." I've posted it previously. It can be found online and is more or less an essay in length. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts and reaction to it. War is a Racket

A bit of a counter coup to what was happening. Trump might be a Billionaire, but he is not in the same league, money wise, as the crooks running things. But their time is coming to a close. Called a conspiracy theory, I have followed Q-Anon since the beginning (bit more than a year ago) and outside of needed disinfo, he has laid it all out on the table. One place to find their posts is here, pulled off 8 Chan - qmap.pub/Good video summaries are here: www.youtube.com/user/prayingmedic and www.youtube.com/channel/UCAyrKoW31y5UcsRjh2ItvxQAfter a while of investigation, and then connecting many dots, this Q-Anon (group) appear connected to Trump. If they are disinfo within his campaign is up in the air. But Too much has come true, way way before MSM ever reported on it. Nothing short of amazing. And If I am wrong, God help us all, as this is our best chance since they killed Kennedy. Ironic posting that in this thread.

As polarizing as Trump is, I'm not in the Trump Lover's club, nor the Trump hater's club. He is our President. I always try to respect that office and give the benefit of the doubt until the fat lady sings. I was a big supporter of Nixon...still think he got dumped on to an extent. Not because he was a great guy, but because he was just doing what most did before him and have continued to do...just more carefully...

sorry, stopped to eat lunch...wanted to add to the former post that somehow there are folks out there that seem to cling to Donald's every word and have developed their own obsessive-compulsive desire to see him destroyed, just as they complain about Trump's obsessive-compulsive need to do what they refer to as "hate". The word hate is way over used in these unenlightened days...
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is PROMOTING bullying and sexism? It actually shows that you can over come bullying... The sexism comes from one line in the show that indicates that Rudolph's dad won't let the mom go out in the freezing cold to search for Rudolph because "It's man's work"...One little line, so let's take the whole thing off the air... (I'm more inclined to wonder if the coach is tagging some of those young fawns)...But I'll still let them show the program... <Oh, c'mon...I was just kidding, man>...
Baby It's Cold Outside is PROMOTING rape culture? C'mon, that conversation in the song is symbolic of the discussion that occurs in many (most?) relationships as the mutual is decision is made whether to move on to a physical relationship...What if the roles were reversed and the lady was pushing for the guy to stay? It DOES happen, you know...just so happens that when the song was written that would have been frowned on my society then...
