Everything but the squeal is a good way to put it. It's not an accident that the first syllable is "scrap." Pretty much whatever is left over after the last sausage has been made. But livermush sounds very much like a first cousin. Scrapple is kind of a once a year -- or maybe every three years -- thing for me, usually with reluctant relatives on board, just to pay homage to our family's Philly roots. I have to have eggs and maybe even pancakes with it to ease the journey through the digestive system. We make it a social occasion, the dietary equivalent of a polar bear plunge.
If there is a step down from Scrapple, it might be Oscar Meyer Sandwich Spread. My third brother Edward used to like that sandwich spread. Always reminded me of vomit. Mayo and mustard was fine for me. Some of my wife's family eat sandwiches with pads of butter on each slice of bread. They believe mayonnaise is awful. Butter or margarine. They eat it my way!…

If Kaybli is glancing at this thread it might be undermining his Michelin-star restaurant experience. Don't look Kaybli!! lol pipps. Reporting back from 4 Charles. Had the burger for appetizer, the prime rib and ribeye for main with mashed potato, green bean sides, chocolate cake for desert. In a meat coma now but sooooooo good. Well worth the difficult reservation. Highly recommended for anyone who goes to nyc. I may clog my friends toilet tomorrow with all that meat. 😂

I don’t even want to look at meat for at least a week. No food seems appealing at the moment in fact. I may never eat again. 😆

Phew, that sounds like dinner for a Gray Wolf. Lots of salad for you today! Lol. I don’t even want to look at meat for at least a week. No food seems appealing at the moment in fact. I may never eat again. 😆 There's a classic place in Amarillo called The Big Texan that I've been to many times. They have a challenge that if you can eat a 72-ounce steak, along with the sides of baked potato and a salad and a dinner roll and I think dessert, within one hour it's free. And you can't leave the table during that time. If you can't finish, you have to pay the full tab. You might be able to pull it off. Something like 95 percent who try can't make it. They keep a baseballref-like list of records -- the fastest is something like 11 minutes, some people have done it twice in an hour, etc. When a challenger comes forward, everyone in the restaurant knows it -- they sit at an elevated table under a spotlight and a mariachi band serenades them. I don't think it has a Michelin star, but the food is actually decent. It's astonishing how large a 72-ounce steak looks when you see one on a plate.

But I’d give it the old college try!

Ironic that you mention a barbecue tour. I have a good friend, who I call the Prince of Pork, who is obsessed with barbecue. He and his wife just finished a 4 day barbecue tour of eastern North Carolina. He ate at 12 restaurants in 4 days. One day he ate at 4 restaurants in one day starting at 10 in the morning. He is not over weight which is a miracle. Did he provide a ranking of the restaurants on his tour? Here is what my friend thanks are the best bbq restaurants in North Carolina. He has eaten at over 30 and give you a detailed descriptions of sides, hushpuppies, portion sizes etc. Since the east is whole hog and the west is butts and shoulders I'll break down how he ranks them by section. Top 5 in each section. I have eaten at most of them: West: Lexington BBQ Stameys Red Bridges BBQ Lodge Alston Bridges BBQ Lodge Tar Heel Q East: Bees Clark's Skylight Inn Sam Jones' Grady's

Out of the eastern ones, 2 are here in Greenville (B's and Sam Jones) and one in Ayden (Skylight Inn--Sam Jones is a son or grandson of the founder), about 10 miles down the road. B's gets my vote as the best. Need to get to Lexington sometime.
