Since we’re on this little side jog of comedy, I just watched about a 10-12 minute clip of Joe Rogan with comedian Steven Wright where Rohan asked him for his inspiration for his act.
Wright replied that it started with “The Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson. Then he picked up on Woody Allen. As much as Allen became a pariah after he left Mia Farrow for their step-daughter, he was a brilliant comedian. And he of course mentioned George Carlin.
Those three people also were great inspiration for my wisecracking, as was Wright himself.
As for his early jokes he mentioned these: His first joke at an open mic night.
“I walked into a bookstore and I started talking to this French girl. Turns out she was a bilingual illiterate. She couldn’t read in two different languages.”
Another was “When I was a boy we had a Shetland Pony. He had an accident with a depilatory that removed all of his hair except for a tuft at the end of his tail. We used to rent him out to Hare Krishna picnics.”
I love absurdist humor the best, so if you ever read anything I write here and think I’m crazy, I am…

That was a great cast. Lots of those folks had success in other productions. Yep...and Brad Garrett was hilarious. One of my favorite episodes is when he decided to be "black". www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANP1WBgtn-4He was also in Fargo Season 2.

Madeline Kahn, Peter Boyle, Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, Cloris Leachman, Terri Garr & Gene Hackman..tough to go wrong with that cast. Marty Feldmans performance was as funny as they come. Abby Normal.

We 120 cable stations, two "streaming services" and all the stuff on the internet... My wife and I watch that show every night ! Doris Roberts was perfect as mom, but Peter Boyle seemed such an odd choice as an Italian-American dad...but it worked. Just goes to show what good actor Boyle was, he also played an Italian American in the movie Crazy Joe.

Arguably the greatest comedy film of all-time! Madeline Kahn, Peter Boyle, Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, Cloris Leachman, Terri Garr & Gene Hackman..tough to go wrong with that cast. I never knew that Gene Hackman was the blind man until years after I saw that movie for the first time.

Did anyone see the movie that Brad Garrett played Jackie Gleason? Was it any good. I thought it was OK. But Garrett did a nice job of portraying Gleason, despite being nearly a foot taller.

French Connection...Unforgiven... 2 Great films! "Mississippi Burning", "Hoosiers", "Crimson Tide", "Class Action", "Quick and the Dead", "No Way Out", and many more!! "Mississippi Burning" & "Hoosiers" great. Don't believe I saw any of the others. Doing some research on "French Connection"...director William Friedkin was strongly opposed to casting Hackman as Popeye Doyle. Was turned down by several more well-known actors and eventually "settled" on Hackman.
