That might be worse casting than John Goodman as Babe Ruth. Goodman looked more like he ate Babe Ruth… William Bendix... I haven’t seen that original in forever…

I haven’t seen that original in forever… I would have to be paid big bucks to watch that one. Clair Ruth thought it was an abomination. William Bendix must have never picked up a bat or a ball in his life. The movie was painful. I hope it's just my imagination, but I have some recollection that toward the end of the film there is a group of kids standing outside Babe's hospital room singing a lugubrious version of "Take Me Out To The Ballgame."

Oddly, my mother, the same mother that forbade me to watch baseball for so many years turned that movie in and told me I should watch it. Perhaps she crushed on Bendix. She seemed to crush a lot on actors. James Arness, Roy Rogers…others I would guess… Something about They could park their shoes under her bed anytime they wanted. 😂 They never showed up…

Always seems to be really tough to get an actor who looks like he belongs on a baseball field. The actor who played Maris in "61*", Barry Pepper, lied in order to get the role. I believe he finally admitted he'd never played an inning of baseball...but he did look a lot like Roger.

Are you old enough to remember "The Life Of Riley"? Probably reruns.

I wonder how much I’ve blocked out?…

I though she was played by William Bendix… 😂 Now, Hazel I recall. Mrs. B was a hotty. Mr. B must have had a bunch of assets to catch that nice little package…

Riley would have been a good match for Hazel. Man, she was annoying. Meddling in Mr. B's business affairs. Flirting with various service workers while she raids the refrigerator. Intervening in the life of that punchable sissified kid Harold. Even as a kid I thought she should have been canned. Yeah, Missy was a pretty hot number. Whitney Blake, mother of Meredith Baxter. Mr. B was played by Don Defore, who before that played Ozzie and Harriet's neighbor Thorny. It was a bad show. So of course we all watched it.

I just remember his wife was called Peg and his kids were Junior and Babs and his neighbors were Gillis and Honeybee. It never even cracked The Nick At Nite schedule as far as I know.
