Kaybli, I've been meaning to ask you if you've ever had licorice ice cream? I've only seen it once and that was back in the 60's at the Chocolate House in Holmes Beach, Fla. It was great, but licorice is one of those polarizing foods and may not be liked by many people. No I have not! I googled it and it looks like something I should try. Have you tried it anywhere recently? Is the Chocolate House in Holmes Beach still around?

My neighbor's wife just had a knee replacement and he is battling cancer. Yesterday I made a vegetable lasagne and instead of making a large one made two smalls and brought them one. I used roasted butternut squash, carmelized red onions and spinach. I ususally use ground beef but will make this one to change things up from time to time.

You’re a good dude. I’m sure your neighbors were greatly appreciative. I love a good lasagna and your dish sounds delicious.

I had Trader Joes' cereals. They are rather tasty and a good value as I seem to recall. I went to Trader Joe’s once and found out the hard way that my wife is heavily influenced by advertising. She was afraid of the stuff I bought. Now, with inflation I’ve switched a lot of our stuff to store brands and she’s been fine with most of it. Nearest Trader Joe’s to this remote outpost? 106 miles, in Colorado Springs. Oops! Just realized I changed wives since then… 😂😂 My wife used to work for the Los Angeles Opera Speakers Bureau. Trader Joe's wife, Trader Alice, was on the board of the LA Opera. She used to throw amazing soirees at their home in Pasadena to which the staff and spousal hangers-on were invited. There was always a smattering of nervous divas and tightly-wound tenors in the mix. As you might expect from people who owned grocery stores, they served an amazing array of appetizers that would have impressed even Kaybli. Just endless, and once even included a service of Beluga Caviar with all the fixings that literally must have cost over $100,000. So those cereals you all were buying went to a good cause! Their house was just a few blocks from the home that was used for the exterior shots of Stately Wayne Manor on "Batman." Right off the 210 Freeway. And on that subject, the Bat Cave itself (exterior, of course) was at the base of Griffith Park and was always a mandatory stop for our visitors, whether they wanted to see it or not.

Nothing extraordinary, suspect many posters on the board come from an era where it was commonplace for neighbors to help neighbors. I both get and give.

But fortunately for me she hasn't figured that out yet.

There is never more than three degrees of separation with seemingly anyone for our man Pipps! Even when it comes to Batman! Take that Kevin Bacon!

Burt Ward, who played the Boy Wonder, lived two houses down from the place where we used to kennel our dogs in the blistering heat of the Inland Empire. No Malibu or Palm Springs retreat for him, at least not then. Holy poor financial planning Batman! For the record, I never saw him. But he probably could hear our dogs barking.

I believe I could have fit in nicely. “Anybody here want some extra whale eggs? You can just scrape them right off my plate on to yours. Is the crepe straight off the Myrtle tree? Anybody wanna run down and check out the bat cave with me? Gettin a little stuffy in here for me.” “I see those whale eggs can go right to your hips, can’t they Mrs. Trader? Anybody know where the can is?” …”I bet that Safeway broad doesn’t throw parties like this. Oh, really? You’re the Safeway broad?”…

We buy Burt Ward’s dog food brand, “Gentle Giants”…
