A girl I went to highschool with is reporting on FB that she made a goal to lose 65 pounds and has so far achieved a 60-pound loss. Amazing stuff. Keep it up, kaybli... Thanks inger! Don't think i'll lose 65 pounds (or that I need to) but 40 is the goal. Yeah. To need a goal of 65 pounds, she had to be quite a Tubby Tuna...But good for her that she decided to do something about it...

How you making out w/ the diet??? How many lbs you down now??? Diet's going good. I stayed at a friends place for a week and ate bad, gained 2 pounds but I lost it after coming back home. I'm currently down 26 pounds, holding my gains. Gonna make another push to lose more weight now with the kitchen renovation complete! Good shit man!!

You skinny-ass! One good thing about getting sick is that I had packed on a half dozen pounds over the holiday, and now most of that is gone… About 182 now… Seems I want to eat more suddenly. I’m having trouble sticking to the protein shake in the morning thingy…

Congratulations, Kay! This thread escaped me completely, mostly due to the timing of its inception. So many of our actual foodie discussions occur during unexciting game threads. There is a town called Hanford in the central San Joaquin Valley of California that at one time had a very famous restaurant in its old Chinese neighborhood, which arose from the building of the railroads in the 19th century. The owner of the restaurant was a descendant of those Chinese immigrants and classically trained in France. During WWII, he served as private chef to military dignitaries and cooked at the White House on more than one occasion. Hollywood stars would take jaunts to this tiny dairy town just for the escargot and French bread. Sadly, the restaurant closed in the 1990s, as the family who owned it had aged and its younger generation delved into other areas of occupation. Without a doubt, however, the very best escargot I’ve had anywhere and not even close.

My brother is moving there when his residency is over in June and I'll go visit him so I need some good restaurant recommendations out there.

Unfortunately, the restaurant scene in LA and elsewhere in CA was decimated by the politicization of COVID (essential vs. non-essential often depended upon whom rather than what). I have no idea what is what anymore in California. However, LA is so huge and so many fresh ingredients are raised in central California, there are bound to be holdovers. Much like New York, most any type of cuisine can be had. Too bad he isn’t going to Austin. That’s where lots of Angelenos have moved. Great food, music and art scene. Like their slogan, “Keep Austin Weird”!

I believe by the time this weekend passes I should be doing pretty good. To put things nicely, I disposed of a lot of mucus today. That should be a good sign…

Wow, Kay, you are officially thin! I think in ninth grade I weighed around 174. Around 210 as a senior during basketball season. I remember the health teacher Ms. Richards doing the BMI for all of us. I asked her, “So, I’m overweight?” She said, “Ignore yours, Christopher, it doesn’t work for everyone. You probably have heavy bones.” The thinnest I have ever been was in college, when I was getting in shape to try to walk on to the baseball and basketball teams. I figured I would try to pitch and to be a three-point shooting guard. I changed my diet, eliminating nearly all carbohydrates (mistake). I was arguably in the best shape of my life - at least for quickness and agility. When I went home, my father cursed me out, telling me “You look like hell!” and accused me of being on drugs. My father…always supportive.

Not any more, alas. I blew out my knee playing basketball in 1996. Lots of rehab to walk without a limp and several years before I could bend down like a catcher to read a green playing golf. When I played tennis regularly in California, my legs strengthened to where I no longer needed a knee brace to play. Then, I wrecked my motorcycle and banged up the very same knee (Still makes me sick to think about - there wasn’t a scratch on my motorcycle before the accident. I miss riding.). I could probably (hopefully) still shoot free throws with some accuracy, but much of shooting - especially range - is tied to one’s legs. I was a 92% free throw shooter in high school (pulls a muscle patting himself on the back).
