My lovely wife took me out for an early dinner to celebrate my birthday today. I seldom order desset but today she insisted.I am glad I did, I had a pumpkin, brioche bread pudding that was topped with carmel sauce and vanilla bean ice cream. It was delicious. Happy Birthday, 55! I am glad you have joined our little community here! Dessert sounds wonderful!

BTW...considering your birthday, was it an Early Bird Special? We ordered from the dinner menu with no discount for early birds or seniors. But the dinner was really good.

I commented on dessert but entire meal was good. Should probably report for Kaybli. Zucchini Cake appetizers, Bone in Ribeye, Truffel Mashed Taters, Grilled Asparagus, and a nice glass of Cakebread Cab.

Like you I almost never order dessert, but yours sounded great. We're so glad you are part of the migration from YES. I've been in and out for the past few weeks so maybe I missed it, but I don't recall you writing about your trip to Yosemite. I hope that went well too.

Thanks Pipps, I didn't write much about the Yosemite trip because it didn't go so well. We arrived Sunday evening, the place we stayed at was very nice. We went to dinner at their restaurant and had a good meal. One of the reasons we chose the place we stayed at was it was located just 3 miles from the south gate of Yosemite. Monday morning we had breakfast and headed out to do some siteseeing about 8am. When we got about halfway to the gate it turned into bumper to bumber traffic. It ended up taking us close to two hours to get through the gate. I was expecting to see an accident or roadwork but learned this is normal. There are actually signs posted about 1 mile from the gate that said you are an hour away. When we got to the gate I learned part of the reason for the delay. Park Rangers talked to us for between 5 and 10 minutes, going over some rules and trying to sell different packages for entry into parks. Once in the Park we were able to move pretty good and had a nice day of siteseeing. Early evening we decided to head back to the hotel and I started to feel sick. I joined my wife for dinner but couldn't eat anything, I had a glass of ginger ale. I went back to the room and crashed. Next morning felt worse, while walking the dog I ran into a New Yorker, we talked Yankees and he also told me that his wifehad become really ill the previous evening. Julie and I decided to head back to the Bay Area early. It was one long car ride. To make a long story a bit shorter, it turns out we both got COVID. It's probably the worse I have ever felt for the first 5 or 6 days. But after a couple weeks of being down we are pretty much back to normal.

Glad you are feeling better now! I got COVID for the first time a few weeks back and though it wasn’t as bad as you had, it definitely wasn’t a fun time.

So sorry it blew up your trip and that you had to go through that ordeal. I've not had Covid, but my wife did a few years ago and her experience was similar to yours. I love National Parks, but they're going to have to initiate a system of timed limited entries during peak season. They're too popular for their own good, although as you noted once you're in there you can get away from it. We were in Great Smoky Mountains National Park about six weeks ago and did okay, but that was just before peak season. We'll be in Shenandoah National Park in a few weeks and see how that goes. Anyway glad you're on the mend and hope you have some more getaways on your agenda.

Some of the National Parks have gotten so busy it's not worth trying to visit during peak season. Zion NP has become so popular that visitors have to park somewhere on the fringes of the nearest town (Springdale), if you can find a parking spot, and take a shuttle into the park. Best to visit off-season if possible.

Still, didn't use to be that way not too long ago. We spent the night in Oakhurst around the same time several years ago before entering Yosemite, and it was hassle-free. There were crowds at certain spots, but nothing that caused the type of problem you and your wife endured. It's my understanding there's been a huge increase in NP visitors in the past several years.

I have great difficulty waiting 10 minutes for a table at Denny's. BTW...hope you don't take it personally, but Sand Dunes NP is my least favorite. IMO, shouldn't even be a NP.
