Obviously not all injuries are the same -- it depends on the player and the duration -- but typically out of a 40 man roster, about half will spend at least some time on the DL. Last year the Yankees had 23 total stints on the DL -- a few of these were guys going on multiple times, but for the most part it was pretty average.
The Dodgers led the way with 38 DL stints, followed by the Cardinals at 36, the Rangers at 34 and the Angels at 32. The White Sox had the fewest with 16, then the Astros with 17. Again, not all injuries are created equal -- Boston had 26, three more than the Yankees, but the impact of losing Judge for six weeks had far more impact than guys like Betts and Bogaerts each with a little over the ten day limit.
The Yanks might be getting theirs out of the way early. We still have the inevitable Bird problem, and it is highly unlikely that Paxton or Tanaka will get through the year without some time on the DL. The key is to spread them out. We will probably end up needing Ellsbury more than we might like to think.

At least we get a look at our depth early on. Britton and Otto both move up a notch. Maybe they go with Tarpley as a replacement.

I don’t see Bird as a problem at all. The regular season and quality pitching will do its job along with stress. I sure hope Greg makes the situation with Luke untenable and one of the other fetches a quality SP.

Chuck, when I said the Bird problem, I was referring to the fact that he sustains long-term injuries every season. There is a baseball axiom that a player who is constantly getting injured will continue to constantly get injured. I'm sure there are multiple examples to disprove that, and I hope Bird is one of them. I still have this flicker of hope that what seems like an incredibly natural Yankee Stadium swing will develop in full glory.

So over/under on how many games before DOME posts a long rant vs how many games Ellsbury plays this season?

No fastballs, so just slow balls. Then he throws a faster slow ball next week. Got it. I think...I know I'd have a hard time not turning one loose once I got myself warmed up...Hey trainer, go fetch me a cup of coffee would you? Thwack! Ouch! Back to the slow balls...Just seems like a long, long time between starting to throw and the gradual increase in velocity, then breaking balls and finally stretching out to 80-100 pitches...Hope it goes well...

You've been duped CHI! Read the date on the tweet! Ugh, why would someone retweet this? [img class="smile" alt=" " style="max-width:100%;" src="//storage.proboards.com/6828121/images/SnvVzBdfGibfshIjVXcI.gif"] [img src="//storage.proboards.com/6828121/images/cYJDdrfMoRBryreIqHCt.gif" style="max-width:100%;" alt=" " class="smile"] Then again, it's so believable.
