Where's my boy Matt Lipka??? I'm sure he's on the travel squad for this game today. Because the travel squad boys said it wouldn’t be the same without him...

Chuck -- I agree Neil Young is an acquired taste. But if I really wanted to extort information from a bad guy, I would subject him to non-stop Celine Dion and not give him a basin to barf in. And that damned “Titanic” song... plus it’s even worse when have to look at her on video. A face made for radio, and a voice made for Morse Code...

Sigh.... Neil freaking Young. Really? I don’t get how a bunch of terrific guys like you can stomach his whining. I would only play his music if I was trying to clear out a party, or if I was trying to torture a terrorist.🙉 Ugh Chuck, and I thought you were a good guy, well I still do, but we have to do something about your disdain for Neil, although I admit he's not for everyone. I love Neil but his last record, the one with the songs about Monsanto, was unlistenable. Neil obviously doesn’t care at this point. But the tour with Lukas Nelson’s band was pretty great.

I do wish he would go back to making "regular" music, enough with the protest stuff. By the way, RIP to Neil'd ex-wife, Peggi Young, who passed away recently. She was the force behind the Bridge School and concerts that helped a lot of kids over the years. She will be missed.

Unless you think it’s a Mantle story. Or if you’re in the Linz family. “Let me tell you a great story about your old grandpa Phil. I forget who the manager and the outfielder were, but you see Grandpa Phil was a world class harmonica player. Coulda’ been somebody with that thing if not for this one incident”... Hell, Linz only has ONE story. Let’s let him have it...

One of the great Yogi stories. unless you think it’s a Manyle story... Mantle’s role in that incident was pretty hilarious. Telling your backup infielder to shove a harmonica up your ass is pretty good for a manager though.

When you think about Mickey, with all the drinking, carousing, peeping Tom activity, his instigational nature (It’s said the harmonica incident was far from isolated), his sometimes cruelty and foul language with children... He was quite a shit...Yet our affection for him never runs dry...

Whether you like Jim Bouton or not, and however you view “Ball Four”, as a tell all, expose, comic masterpiece, or trash, the book changed our view of sports personalities forever. It also opened up writers to do honest and complete biographies where in the past we only learned the vanilla. Now we sample every flavor of their world, even the ones we don’t like. I’ve been wanting to read Leavy’s bio for a while. It seems I never get around to reading much of anything these days that’s not either on these pages or for work...But... these pages could easily be construed as an informal masterpiece. What the hell, I AM one of the writers... (: Thanks to all of the other contributors who make this an interesting little society of it’s own, and for putting up with me!!!
