Have people already forgotten what Gary Sanchez can do with the bat? Why would we want anyone else as catcher? Bird was a catcher. If he were still a catcher, he'd have versatility that he now lacks, and would help create a more definite place for him on the roster. That's all. But that’s because the team saw no future for him at catcher, and it’s been many years, blue. I remover a time when I was a lad of about 7 and I thought I would like to become a paleontologist. Why? I liked dinosaurs. I never followed that path, so now I don’t have that skill set. I have no regrets. We shouldn’t have regrets for Bird. He actually did get some of the training, and failed the test. Who knows? Voit may crap the bed or sustain an injury this year and Bird may wind up replacing him at 1B. I hope not, because I like them both...

Have people already forgotten what Gary Sanchez can do with the bat? Why would we want anyone else as catcher? I’m sure he meant as a BUC...But I like Romine in that role. He’s reliable defensively, and for sitting a lot he does okay with the bat...Last year he also showed some of the pop in MLB that he showed in the minors that had me hopeful he could someday hit 15-20 HR... His biggest fault is swinging at way too many pitches... Always had, though he showed improvement early last season, which is part of why he started off so well... I can see why Bird was moved from catching, given his body shape and size, plus he can't stay healthy playing first base, I don't think he'd last long behind the dish.

An LJ Mazzilli sighting today. Hard to believe his dad will be 64 in a couple of weeks...Don’t forget the old man spent a bit of time with the Yanks, highlighted by 6 HR in 34 games...

Hey, I think I just started my first ever game thread, and Anthony is not here to see it...It’s okay. I’m just a ST opener... I already posted the lineups for this game earlier and even with that no one has started a game thread for this game. This is all just mushed up into the all encompassing Spring Training Game Threads thread. So I'm not sure what you're talking about, inger.

Me neither. Hell, I’m just a crazy old man posting on a forum. What do you expect of me?
Phillip Diehl:
Looks like a giant seven year old. Was 26th round pick. Doesn’t throw real hard. Has nasty movement on his pitches. Can he really get MLB hitters out, or will be be Edwar, JR.? I’m calling him my favorite dark horse relief prospect. Alert! Edwar was once my favorite dark horse pitching prospect...

I too thought he had some real promise. And for sure he did have a rather goofy look to him. Skin and bones, peering in at the plate with a confused look. Edwar is one of only nine pitchers to strike out the side in his major league debut. I must have been watching that game and extrapolated from that the guy was on his way to Cooperstown. For the record, only two of those nine went on to any measurable success in the majors -- the reliever Braden Looper and the Yankees' own Stan Bahnsen. Bahnsen isn't much remembered any more, but he had maybe five or six good seasons and was rookie of the year in 1968. He once threw a 12-hit shutout. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, pitch-counters.
