Yeah, the smartest guy on the whole thread is the guy who deleted his name. It's interesting to look at threads in retrospect. I was once criticized on one iteration of our old website for bumping old threads. To me, it was fun to see whose predictions were prescient. In my observation, Hicks' swing, especially from the left side, always appeared too long, and there just aren't many Dave Winfield's or Vlad Guerrero's or Gary Sheffield's having the elite bat speed and other-worldly hand-eye coordination to make adjustments game to game and to continue to produce year after year. My main objection to Hicks' contract at the time was that he had only one season in which he produced over 100 hits (2018). Sadly, heading into 2022, that fact remains. Granted, three straight years of injuries are most to blame, but that was a knock on him when he was a Minnesota Twin. I recall Gene "Stick" Michael laying out three main tenets for acquiring players as free agents, in trades, and in the draft: 1. Talent - Can they play the game? 2. Character - How do they play the game? 3. Heath - Are they available to play the game? When you think of players like Paul O'Neill, Bernie Williams, Derek Jeter, Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, and Tino Martinez, they all fitted those three criteria perfectly. Anytime I think about the Hot Stove Season, Stick Michael's questions always come back to mind.

If only Stick could have understood things like retreads, YOUTH, and six year plans involving promoting players from A ball because of their numbers. He could have been one helluva GM. For that matter, Cashman could use those lessons, too. I say we gift him with a parrot for his office and see if he gets the hint…

She is flying to NYC as we speak with a Do Me Dictionary of my BB Terms. She is also carrying a stick with her to force Stick to implement our Six-Year Plan.
It may take her a while to get there--I figured by 2025...

If she hasn’t left yet, you may get reroute her to Florida and advise her to rent a shovel while she’s there if she’s looking for stick. He took an underground apartment there in 2017… a

This is a bargain for the Yankees, 7 years might be a little long for a 29 year old, but 10 million per year is a steal. I don't think we've seen the best of Hicks yet and he's already a very good player. I like what the Yankees have done with Hicks and Sevy, getting them locked up. www.mlb.com/news/hicks-signs-7-year-deal-with-yankeesWELL does anyone want to change their opinion???

No, at the time the signing made sense. The Yanks should have locked up Judge is a deal like this years ago, now it will cost them big time.
