The lowest OPS on the team is batting third. Makes sense...

The lowest OPS on the team is batting third. Makes sense... Morales probably got two hits against this pitcher in a rehab game four years ago and Boone happened to be there...Maybe this will get him going...

Paddock is quite an interesting rookie. Throws a 4-seamer that varies in speed from 92-96 and has topped out at 98. He knows where it’s going and he works both sides of the plate with it. He likes to finish batters off with high heat, and also features an 84-MPH. Change up. Right handed batters are hitting .103 off him. He works fast and gets ahead on counts.
His weaknesses? His third pitch is a weak curveball that is hittable. But he rarely throws it because the heater and change work so well. He’s not particularly HR prone vs. LH hitters, but all 4 HR he’s allowed so far have been to them (hence Gardner batting 5th and Morales 3rd?). He’s also been more dominant at home than on the road. Maybe Yankee Stadium will make him a bit jittery. We can hope.
He made the Pads starting rotation out of ST despite having only worked a MiLB career high of 90 innings last year. At some point this season, that will likely catch up to him. Today? We can only hope. So far he’s only allowing about one hit every other inning. It’ll be interesting to see if the Yankees have a plan and can break through against this upstart. If they can lay off the high heater and get a few calls from the ump, that may help...

Paxton gets the third out but runs the count full. Seemed like his delivery quickened following the first two strikeouts. Twenty pitches in the first.

Three up, three down in the second for Paxton and a much more economical 15 pitches.
