I agree he was good. Just not an elite player who would justify the HOF based on defense. But I doubt many get to the hall based on their defense. Not many do, though Rizzuto and Ozzie are there primarily for their defense....especially Ozzie. Going way way back -- another SS in there completely for his defense was Rabbit Maranville. Although I don't think his name comes up very often in baseball bar conversations these days. |

Although I don't think his name comes up very often in baseball bar conversations these days. Walter James Vincent Maranville. He has the lowest BA of any SS in the HOF...he did have over 2600 hits though. 5’5” |
