I’d have no problem with Ripken or Jeter playing shortstop...all the way to Cooperstown. Neither got there by their defense. Neither of them were Ozzie Smith, to be sure. But it's become revisionist history to seriously downgrade their defensive abilities. They weren't hurting their teams out there except maybe toward the end.

I did not watch Ripkens but I don't think Jeter was an elite SS.

If you're the Red Sox, just hit everything to RF.

I’d have no problem with Ripken or Jeter playing shortstop...all the way to Cooperstown. Hard to argue with that logic. What I dispute is that these guys often get accolades about their defense, but the accolades truly are due to the bat... They both have some incredible highlights defensively....Jeter especially. When a baseball lifer like Don Zimmer says Jeter was the best SS he’d ever seen at coming in on balls and going backwards on balls, I shall take his opinion as objective because I saw the same....albeit he saw infinitely more baseball and baseball players than I ever will.

Frazier should have been replaced by Maybin after the seventh inning for his own protection. The Yankees can't let the guy unravel.

We should make Frazier pitch the 9th...

I did not watch Ripkens but I don't think Jeter was an elite SS. Jeter never should have won a gold glove, but he was good enough at the position for a majority of his career.

Just not an elite player who would justify the HOF based on defense. But I doubt many get to the hall based on their defense.

I missed it. Did Frazier blow another ball in the 8th inning?

Not many do, though Rizzuto and Ozzie are there primarily for their defense....especially Ozzie.

My sentiments exactly. We must have been watching the same games.

I missed it. Did Frazier blow another ball in the 8th inning? Yep, turned a single into a gift triple.
