I never cared for David Ortiz but not enough to see him shot. I just wanted Yankees’ pitchers make him move his feet in the box. No one opponent caused more consternation for the Yankees than Ortiz.

I know he was born there but the Dominican Republic would not be my choice of where to live if I had the money he does. Or period. AGREED!!! Of course I chose Mexico so I shouldn't be throwing rocks if I live in a glass house. Why DID you make that choice, Dome?...

At first I thought you typed consterPATION. He probably relieved some of that for our pitchers through the years...

I know he was born there but the Dominican Republic would not be my choice of where to live if I had the money he does. Or period. For many people home is home. They want to be with their friends and relatives...maybe be the “big man” at the bar or in the neighborhood, soaking in the fame, even helping local folks out...

Red Sox send plane to transport Ortiz to Boston
The Red Sox sent a plane to the Dominican Republic on Monday to transport David Ortiz to Boston, Ortiz's media assistant, Leo Lopez, told ESPN's Enrique Rojas.
Doctors have approved Ortiz's transfer for further treatment once the plane is ready, Dr. Abel Gonzalez told ESPN.
"The level of stability that Big Papi is showing at this moment makes it possible for him to travel immediately," Gonzalez said.
Red Sox president and CEO Sam Kennedy confirmed that the team was sending a plane to the Dominican Republic with the hope that Ortiz would be in Boston by Monday night.
"Right now, the club's exclusive focus is on David's health and well-being," Kennedy said at a news conference, "and we're doing everything we can to get David back to Boston as soon as possible."

There’s something about this story that doesn’t add up. That didn’t seem like a robbery or a random act of violence.

It’s getting a bit odder. A mob boss hired a cop to do the shooting because he suspected Ortiz was having an affair with his wife. The family is in Miami, but David likes to go to this Dominican club to handmade with his buds... Of course we know that David might have accidentally been given some performance enhancing drugs there in the past, so no it may just turn out that he made an investment in some business down there that he thought was legitimate, but is not. He might have also accidentally been seeing a woman down there... He’s quite accident prone, you see... Big Poopy... Not that I’m happy he was shot, but it seems he may be a fellow who plays with fire a bit...Sometimes when you do that, well... you know the rest...

I was always in favor of walking Ortiz from the seventh inning on in a close game. I can't think of anyone who burned the Yanks more in those situations. Edgar Martinez was pretty bad too. George Brett. But nobody I would less rather face with the game on the line. I never understood why the Yanks never seemed to move him off the plate either. It was like he intimidated them. How different baseball records would have been if Brian Cashman had been able to persuade The Boss to sign Ortiz as has been asserted he did. I understand the reasons behind it -- Giambi was there -- but that signing changed the trajectory of Red Sox history.

Drug lord may have hired David Ortiz shooter over alleged affair with his wife
Authorities in the Dominican Republic believe David Ortiz was shot by two police officers hired by a drug lord who thought the former Red Sox slugger was having an affair with his wife, according to a report.

He apparently suffered organ damage and has been flown to Boston.

I wish I hadn’t seen it, but I did... So many athletes put themselves in risky situations. I think it’s because they are allowed to get away with so much that they always assume they’ll get to slide on the next one...
