Why is he even on the roster? I’ve been wondering that all year. The team’s belief in Holder is mystifying.

Im watching the replay in the early morn. Wow Holder is awful. Rockin that 6.81 ERA. “The pitcher was the best player, daddy. He hit the bat every time”...

Both Cessa and Holder have horrific numbers over the last 28 days. I realize they may have been better at one time but right now neither has any business being on the 25 man roster. Apparently there are no better options. In the last 28 days Cessa has worked 14 1/3 inning and given up 12 runs. His ERA is over 5 for the year and much worse over that time. As we all know Holder's numbers are even worse. We do need better starting pitching but we need to find some folks that can pitch in the 6-7 innings.

I've bashed Holder for his performance this year just like every other Yankee fan in the world. Obviously there was no choice but to send him to Scranton. It should have been done earlier.
But man, after seeing him interviewed after the game, I felt for the guy. I hate when they put a human face to a guy we're chasing with pitchforks.
Realistically, there is reason to believe that like Chad Green and Tommy Kahnle before him in recent times, he gets his confidence back at AAA and again becomes a serviceable pitcher. I don't think his talent level is equal to theirs, but we are talking about the 12th or 13th pitcher on the staff. He pitched decently in both 2017 and 2018, with ERAs under four both years, albeit mostly in low leverage situations. Even with the pounding he has taken in recent weeks, his career major league adjusted ERA+ is still slightly better than the league average. It's not as if he is incapable of pitching effectively.
One of the many problems with 13-man staffs is that you have probably 60 pitchers in the major leagues who ten or fifteen years ago would have been in the minors. Let's hope Holder can figure things out.

Boone and Cashman were more than patient with Holder, but I think there was a period of about 3 weeks this season that he was virtually nails coming out of the pen...I can't blame Boone for thinking Holder could mop up yesterday, but after a couple other bad outings, yesterday was way over the top, and he had to be sent down........ What happened to the lefty of maybe 2 years ago who was thought to be a developing reliever in the minors.....I suppose he got hurt..

I feel sorry for Holder. But baseball is about being successful and he can not pitch. He tried I am sure, but trying is not enough sometimes.

El Duque probably is somewhere.... Right arm fell off, so he’s a lefty now. Gives him another 25 years...
