I think we are only about 5 games up He meant the New York Yankees have an excellent won-loss record vs. their opponents that play in the AL East. And they do. Without that, they’d be behind... yeah I misunderstood..

Well, since about four of us hammered it in for you it shows that we care enough about you to help keep you on top of things... But we are! We are tearing up the AL East. Even if you take away the 10-2 vs. Baltimore (and you can’t), were 14-5 against the rest of the division... We be nasty!!!

A couple of bad bassrunning blunders tonight the kind that will cost you a playoff game. One by Stanton and one by Voit. Stanton’s could cost him a few games in the lineup.

You forgot Hicks getting picked off at first....right before Torres homered to right. I missed Voit’s play, but I understood that he was waved home. Not every out on the bases is a base running blunder. Sometimes it’s a good calculated risk. Just before that I noticed that Voit had taken second on a fly ball to centerfield. Even though I was in a restaurant “watching” on GameCast, it occurred to me at that moment that although Voit is slow, he seems to understand what he can and can’t do and seldom seems to miss a chance to take an extra base when it’s within his limits. Then, I saw he was tagged out at home and I figured it was my fault... ):

I did not see the Hicks out, but if he was picked off base given that he rarely steals that is pretty bad.

Anyone notice that Chapman and Sanchez were not on the same page for the last pitch. Sanchez called for a slider in the dirt and Chapman threw a fastball up. When they met on the mound after the game, you could tell that Chapman missed the sign. He looked a bit perplexed. Sometimes when you change signs so many times with runners at second base, you can forget which set you’re using. That’s why so many pitchers now are seen looking into their hats and catchers at the flip chart on their wrists. Had Sanchez called for a fastball and gotten a slider in the dirt, the ball likely would have gotten away and the runners moved to second and third. Luck is with the Yankees thus far, with the exception of the injured list. Good observation!

Games have so many nuances, so many turning points...That’s the one thing that TV can’t always give us, the ability to watch the whole field the whole time. There a times that a fielder shifts his feet and a millisecond later the ball is struck, and that little shift of the feet, nearly unnoticed determines if the ball is caught or becomes a hit... This one moment was of course on camera, but I was just focused on the strikeout. Thanks for pointing it out, Rizzer... That’s a true “inside” baseball play...
