Yeah, that all sounds familiar, even though my experience was about 25 years or so behind yours (going by our ages).
I knew I was in at about the top of my level of play, too when I got into a game. That alone mad it a blast. Had I not been a workaholic I’m sure I could have played more, even made a team full time, but that wasn’t meant to be.
