I think the HR Derby is goofy but he made more money doing the derby than he will make playing for the Mets this season

I liked the Vlad, Jr. / Pederson showdown in the semi's but this is just glorified batting practice. It's not actually baseball.

I think the HR Derby is goofy but he made more money doing the derby than he will make playing for the Mets this season And then we get one that’s for the ages. Don’t they say that every year? Best one ever! Best what? Batting practice. Oh. Yawn...

Yea, I'm not a big fan of the HR derby either. It was on while I was at the restaurant for dinner so I watched maybe 5 minutes of it. Still have to wait all the way till Thursday for real baseball to return.

Still have to wait all the way till Thursday for real baseball to return. I shut it off and went to read a book. But my kids really loved it and stayed up until the end. So since this is all just a marketing gimmick, it seems to have been effective for their target audience which is not me, except in the sense that I pay for their stuff.

The all star game’s appeal has eroded with each subsequent season of inter-league play.

Agree that it's basically batting practice, but I thought last night's HR Derby was fun to watch, especially the Vlad/Pederson contest where they kept going to extended time with each one "having" to hit one or two out to keep it going. The way it's set up now, it is in fact a kind of endurance contest. Vlad was clearly exhausted when the second round ended. It was also fun to watch Acuna kind of flick homers the opposite direction which didn't seem like they could possibly go out, but they did. Yeah, it's batting practice. But don't you go to the stadium early sometimes to try to watch batting practice? And you don't go to watch them work on their bunting. You go to see who's gonna hit some monster homers. Like going to a rehab assignment in Durham a few weeks ago when Stanton and Judge were there as I did. Yeah, I was interested in the game, but I wanted to see some moon shots in BP. And Stanton delivered. I thought MLB delivered on that last night as well.

when I was young and until inter-league play started, I truly cared that the AL would put it to the NL in the AS game....I only pull for the Yankee players in the main now...

the Yelich outs are hard-hit... You can sort of understand why Jeter moved Stanton. The Yelich deal is inexplicable.

The Yelich deal is inexplicable. yes it is....Stanton was moved first, I think....if so, I wonder if Cashman discussed Yelich with Miami.....Imagine if Cashman had been able to tie together the deal taking on the big salary of Stanton AND adding Yelich to the package to NY.....whew.....I suspect it could have been done perhaps...
