Everybody loved Musial. He was more tied to the teams of his childhood - the Gas House Gang. Those were amazing teams. I would have loved to see Pepper Martin in action. me too....who would be a possible comp that we did see....Dykstra?

You’re not going to get away with mentioning Elmer Valo without hearing from me, Pipps. Few think of Valo as one of our own, bit the Yankees acquired the then 39-year old Czechoslovakian before the 1960 season.
Valo spent most of his 20-year career as a reserve because he lacked power, but he was a master of the strike zone. The only season in which he got over 500 AB he drew 119 walks.
In ‘60 the Yankees moved on from Valo early in the season after he went hitless in 5 at bats but drew two walks over 8 plate appearances. It turned out to be an historic season for Valo, as he wound up the year with a still-record total of 82 pinch hit appearances and a still record total of 18 pinch walks. He also holds the MLB record of 92 career pinch walks. Who knew, huh?
Valo is the only player in MLB history to have endured two twenty game losing streaks during his playing career. The first was a then-record twenty game losing streak while playing for the ‘43 A’s. The second time was the still MLB record 23-game losing streak of the ‘60 Phillies.
His career slash was .282/.398/.391. Certainly a very useful talent. In the racially charged environment of his time he was also credited with being the first man to step forward and welcome Vic Power with whom he became good friends, teaching him Power an other Hispanics English. Many claimed that they could hear the Slavic. accent in Vic Davalillo’s English throughout his life.
Wow, this post was interrupted by a phone call that took me away from the game for over a half hour. I got back out here just in time to see the replay of Judge’s HR. Now Didi pounds his slammer. Great times!!!
