I’m sure the guys miss Jorge in the locker room restroom. Whistling, peeing gleefully on his hands... Jorge had his ways, but I loved what he brought to the team for so many years. He was one of the few Yankees that MrG was less than enthusiastic about. Jorge was wildly underrated.

Consistency usually is. Other than that one crazy year when his BABIP soared and Jorge hit .338 he was amazingly consistent. I always thought he could have hit .300 before that season, but never dreamed he’d reach .338. In addition he was a tough, grizzled leader that blocked the plate courageously in an era when that was still requirement of the job. His desire to succeed was blatantly worn on his sleeve...

Where does Jorge rank among Yankee catchers? I have this in my head now:
1. Berra
2. Dickey
3. Munson
4. Jorge
does anyone see Jorge higher than this?

The peak of Posada:
From 2000-2009 Posada slashed .283/.386/.492. He hit 288 doubles and 208 HR during that period, driving in 819 runs. He was 36 in 2008 when he went on the DL for the first time in his career, and he missed 111 games that year, yet he still caught 1302 games in the decade while compiling a 129 OPS+.
Looking at that peak, even when realizing that he was an average defensive catcher from most accounts this is the first time I’ve realized that these are Hall of Fame stats. Looking at a player’s peak, both in length and accomplishment reveals so much more than milestone career numbers that many voters tend to rely on...

Let’s take this to the new thread I’m starting, greatest Yankee Catchers. I may have to work the research a bit slower than at 2B, but I’ll do some drilling down. Kaybli, when I get the thread started can you move the Jorge discussion from this thread to the new one? Maybe from where Fatness mentioned how under rated he was? Not sure how much gas I have left in me tonight and a couple of late night chores to do yet...

I am no judge but I remember him being criticized for being a great hitter, but not a great defensive catcher. I remember what was one of his few triples of his career he was tearing the whole way lol

Had a bad headache and tuned out after the 7th. Big mistake! I should have soldiered on! Just saw the highlights! What a comeback by Judge and then the finisher by Didi! Takes the sting away from last night's loss!

Hope you’re feeling better! Thanks GF! I'm good now. The grand slam would have healed your noggin immediately. It was a site to behold (as you’ve seen by now). After Judge hit the lead, HR, it seemed I blinked my eyes and the bases were loaded. Now, we need to at least split these last two, but of course I prefer we bury these ugly fish ever deeper into the depths of the Yankee blue sea of despair...

That pitch that he hit was well high out of the strike zone too. Mattingly used to butcher boy balls like that. And he did it more often than any other hitter I’ve ever seen...
