I always wonder why people worry here about Boston who is not a threat this year I think. But not Tampa which is clearly a better team.

Great stuff on Elmer Valo, Inger. I was not aware of his pinch hitting records. Loved the Vic Power story. Guys from that era who I think of for pinch hitting prowess would be Dave Philley, Jerry Lynch and Smokey Burgess. Don't forget ex-Yankee Cliff Johnson. I believe he had a 20 pinch home runs. Matt Stairs (Professional Hitter) has the record at 23.

I meant to win the division but generally pitching matters more in play offs and tampa has the best pitching in baseball this year. I do not know if Boston will make the play offs this year.

You have great recall, Utah. I looked it up -- Jerry Lynch had the highest OBP on the team at .407, even beating Frank Robinson's .404. After Robinson, the two guys tied for second in home runs were Gene Freese and Gordy Coleman with 26. Two names not much remembered today.

You can finish in third place and still be a wild card team. We have a lot more games left to play vs. Boston this year. If we happen to be cold when we play them, we could have a big mess on our hands... To ignore Tampa OR Boston would be unwise...

Right now boston, who is losing tonight, would have to pass two other teams to be the 2nd WC. If we beat them up they may not make it. www.mlb.com/standings/wild-card

Ignore them at your risk...
