Wow. That had to be great to witness. He apparently was very very tough.....I saw him, I think 3 times in 1948, and this is not to take anything away from Satchel because he probably was in his 60's....but I am like 99% sure he was loading some pitches...and I didn't blame him at all... I wish I could remember who he pitched against in the game. I think it was Carl Hubbell and Paige won the game 1-0. Said he never saw anyone that good. |

It’s not often that Morton has this kind of meltdown in a game. It’s also not often that you can say that the problem a 36-year old guy is having is that he’s pitching like he did 8-10 years ago... (:

I have a feeling Satch was that good...I believe he matched up against Dizzy Dean and the Cardinals when the Cards were the best, and Satch won... |
