This trade does open up a spot on the 40 man roster that will hopefully be used on Severino or Betances before this season is over. Those two are currently on the 60 day IL, so they are not on the 40 man roster as of today.

Your examples are not as extreme as Inger is talking about. Think of it this way: Student X takes four exams and scores 78, 75, 75, 72. The average is 75% for a C. Student Z takes the same exams and scores 0, 100, 100, 100. The average is 75% for a C. Which student would you bet to have the better grade after ten exams? You dare to go down the rabbit hole of statistics with Noetsi? My argument was that the results were not in fact distorted as badly as that shows. That even before last week they were not pitching well. It would be useful to know the median era but baseball has not yet reached that level of sophistication (not that this is really sophisticated). If I can get more time I will look up their starts before last week.

Supposedly. A lot them are time series and no one knows if you are right for a year or so. By then they forget who run the numbers anyway...
That is what I am running now. And Cox Proportional Hazard to find out when Cashman will get fired by the Steinbrenners.

For me, the big disappointment was Stroman. The moment the Mets' deal got completed, I realized not only that the Yanks missed out on the guy who was their best --realistic--addition to their rotation AND that teams were, yet again, going to be asking for the moon and stars from the yankees while, from other teams, they'd demand just the moon. The Yankees could have, and would have, offered a better package than what the Mets offered, but--my guess, at least--they didn't have the chance. The 'Jays likely insisted on a ridiculous price. Bottom line: MLB continues to treat the Yankees like they did during the George years. Demanding extraordinary prices and getting them. But the Yankees have changed. Big George cared about winning at least as much as he cared about profits. His son(s) just likes to make money.

Stroman probably WAS the best fit for the Yankees rotation...with his New Yorker personality, and his ground ball stats....he could have made a difference in where this team ends up this season..... The Yankees brass have to notice the uneven trade demands that other clubs seem to make in mid-season...it seems to me the Yankees should address their roster issues with winter trades, and FA signings...that and continue to build depth to provide our own "mid-season additions"....

My frustration was not get a decent reliever given that Atlanta got three (so it was obviously doable).

I agree getting Stroman from the Jays was probably the Yanks best chance to land a front line starting pitcher but will we ever know what the price would have been? Did the Yanks have to offer more than Garcia? If so, how much more? What I do know is that with CC being out at least a couple more weeks, Stroman would have been a big help.

The real question is how much cashman tried to me. Its one thing to try and fail and another to fail because you don't try.

The real question is how much cashman tried to me. Its one thing to try and fail and another to fail because you don't try. I’m quite certain he tried. I’m quite certain he tried very hard. I’m also quite certain that he’s got his eyes on this year and five years from now. The Yankees are about building a sustainable product, not just today. The MLB landscape is changing. There is a troublesome trend for youth to choose other endeavors, not only as players, but as viewers. Those fat TV contracts will start to shrivel if the TV ratings begin to tumble... That’s one reason you see teams circling the wagons by signing young players to long term contracts and free agents struggling to find teams willing to invest money for the back end of careers. For the time being. This team is just fine. If we need solutions, then perhaps we’ll see some of our minor leaguers get an opportunity to fill gaps. That may be a good thing. Besides the potential returns of Severino and Montgomery, we could also see Loaisiga back on the team, a year older and wiser...Plus we can look to AAA and AA...They have to grow up sometime, right? If we can’t trade ‘em, let’s use ‘em...

Its been 9 years since we were in a WS inger. Maybe its time to focus on today. As Lord Keynes said in the long run we will all be dead.
Its hard for me to believe Atlanta found 3 relief pitchers and we found zero if we tried. I don't believe it was impossible for us to get someone better than Green or Cessa in relief. Maybe I am wrong.
Regardless I am through with talking about standing pat on trades. It's done and we can move on. Hopefully it will not cost us in the play offs although Las Vegas has already decided it cost us a lot....and unlike me they know what they are talking about. Tampa up 8-4 in the 8th

Some of the offers made to various teams and their outrageous counters have been reported in print. Such discussion and negotiation presupposes attempts/effort. Therefore, you are wrong.
