I don't know how good Wheeler is but Andujar has no place to play on the Yankees except DH where EE logically fits. We have Urshela and LMH who can play third and his(Andujar) defense is woeful. I don't want him to play an infield position. Frazier is poor at defense and has major attitude problems. If Wheeler is a good pitcher as many think I would have made this deal. As for his present ERA has anyone looked at our starter's ERA recently? Yes, his ERA is right in line with what the current Yankee starters are doing. And in a lesser hitting division. So at best he'd be more of the same. Not worth trading Frazier and Andujar.

Well the theory is he is a really good pitcher who had a bad year I think. I don't think that is true of the Yankee starters any longer.
But I admit I have no idea of the view of him is correct.

Wheeler’s 4.71 is a rather deceptive account of his performance. His 3.65 FIP is more indicative of what he’s capable of. Perspective? He’s 20tg in MLB in FIP. The pitcher in 19th is Lucas Giolotto, the guy in 21st I’d Madison Bumgarner.
Verlander is 24th or 25th, I forget which. I believe Syndergaard was 16th. The best FIP among qualified* Yankees is the 54th position held by Tanaka...
* due to low innings totals, Tanaka is the only qualifier on the Yankee staff... it’s amazing how few pitchers are now qualified for the rates leaderships like ERA...

after the worse start in his career he only lasted 4 innings today Hey maize His removal from the game was while he was still pitching a shutout... he wasn’t exactly knocked out of the game...He had worked extremely hard without his best stuff, plus for a brief stretch seemed to be working on and to a degree rediscovering his splitter. I’d build a case that he made progress...

80 pitches in 4 innings sounds like he was laboring to me (I did not see the first 4 innings at work).
Given that he was coming off the worse game in his career I guess anything is progress.

He threw 36 of those pitches in the third inning. I feel that’s what prompted Boone to come out with the quick hook in the 4th...He really hung the pitch that was smacked for a single to put runners on first and third...

Tanaka was removed in the fifth inning. There were simply zero outs at the time and two on base. One double play ball and the start looks much different, but BaBoone just cannot help himself.

after the worse start in his career he only lasted 4 innings today Hey maize Worst, Russ. Worse is comparative. Worst is superlative, meaning nothing has been as bad. Think of better and best.

I know, damnit. Next, I’ll be hauling gravel and attending weddings every three weeks.
